I hadn't heard of The Gridiron Club, so I did a search, and found out it's a club for DC journalists, and admittance is by invitation only.
Not that I would want to go in there anyway. The snobbery, arrogance, and elitism would be too much to handle for this fly-over country plebe.

Very True.
Watched President's friday press conference? Very lively. Reporters were respectful. Bush was humerous, friendly, spoke from the heart without notes. Lots of laughter from the media, which is rare with WH press corps. They even applauded at the end.

Gridiron Club....by invitation only.
What surprised me was the statement that this was Russert's first appearance there.

Seems they only are going to Republicans they can count on to trash the Republicans. As long as there's Brit Hume, there's one pom pom waver for ya.

Hunter is just a media whore.Well... yeah! But I think, having "won" the ports issue, that he's on a campaign to try to mend at least some fences and I'm bettting he'll be largely defending the White House. Of course, he'll do it by congratulating the President on how wise he is to have surrendered.

They want substitutes when they are short in supply like Hagel or Graham. So, They are grooming new ones. Drunk Hunter is the new one.

Nice to see Art Buchwald there (ABC). I know he's very ill these days. I wonder if this is going to be an old clip of him.
I know he's been a lib, but he was a very funny and good-willed guy back about 35 years ago.

In years past, I could have sworn we've seen it on C-SPAN, but maybe we've just seen snippets?
I recall the year Don Imus hosted and trashed both Clintons. Wasn't that the Gridiron dinner?

Oh, I guarantee you that your quote was accurate. Twain's was the closest thing I could find on short notice, however.
Someone, somewhere said anyything you can think of in almost any imaginable variation, at some point.
I'm sure someone said that once.

Thats not a link to a press conference. It was a speech he gave to the National Newspaper Association. They applauded because he was a guest giving a speech.
