Ex-White House official arrested for thefts
Domestic policy adviser who resigned in January accused in return scam
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A former domestic policy adviser to President Bush has been charged with theft for allegedly receiving phony refunds at department stores.
Claude Alexander Allen, 45, was arrested Thursday by Montgomery County police for allegedly returning more than $5,000 worth of merchandise he did not buy, according to county and federal authorities.
Allen was the No. 2 official in the Health and Human Services Department when Bush nominated him in April 2003 to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. Bush nominated him to the court again a year later, but Allen never received a Senate vote.

Anti-theft-in-the-White-House Sarcasm Torpedo ARMED. FIRE!!
With a background like this, he was groomed for petty theft.
Kleptomania, it sounds like.
No, that would be a good background for grand larceny!
Predictably, 'they' are going to play up his supposed homophobia and his background with J. Helms, and link it to a supposed 'Republican culture of corruption'. His supporters, if any, may try to play the race card in return. But if he really did what he is accused of having done, it sure disqualifies him from posts of such public trust...
Might it be the Clintonian-DNC politics-of-personal destruction, as practiced by Senators Leahy and Kennedy, drove him to do it?
Big stakes, huh! Five Grand.
He shoulda taken lessons from Bill Clintopervert, Hillary Rotten and Marc Rich.
He buys items, stores them in his trunk, go back, picks the same items again then get a refund on those and walks away with 'free' stuff?
I'd never conceive of such a crime. I even hate taking things back legitimately!
"Ex-White House official arrested for thefts"
Number 2 man at Health and Human Services is hardly a "White House Official".
sandy burglar?
what a pox on a other good white house staff, Dubya will be linked somehow to this man's failures.
The press just questioned the president about this at news conf...he said if true, he is deeply disappointed and saddened for Allen's family.
