100,000 people rally over controversial immigration bill

Chicago police say as many as 100,000 protestors are gathering outside the Chicago Federal Center to voice their concerns about a house bill that would tighten immigration laws. The massive demonstration has blocked many streets in the Loop.

The border security bill would make it illegal to assist any undocumented immigrant. That measure is drawing the attention of numerous groups and lawmakers on both sides of the issue.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered at the Chicago Federal Center to protest the house bill 4437. They believe the bill discriminates against undocumented residents and those who try to help them and it robs them of a chance at the American dream.

I know a case personally where a man who bragged about being an illegal from Mexico, bought a $450,000 building to make income and had the 'white' tenants evicted and laughed about it

There was a man near here that had a bar for many years and then he started having some sort of topless dancing- when they busted him, the state found out he was an illegal and I don't think he had the right licenses for his bar to begin with.

I tried to tell people also, and didn't get anywhere until recently. It hasn't been that long ago that even freepers would not believe what was happening on the border, it wasn't being reported in the media and everyone wanted a link to an article. I understand wanting proof, that is what makes FR what it is, but it was frustrating when we could offer no proof, so no one would listen.

The disrupters are really our useful idiots if you just think about it; they bump the thread so more can read these articles, and their arrogance tends to make fence sitters and those not really aware of the problems see the attitude of the supporters of illegal aliens. Yes that's right, and I'm sure they will. Here's a link to a duplicate post of this story (though the poster got huffy when I said it was a dupe, he pointed out that it was a different title and news source, but still, same event).

In the linked-to write up, the AP is trying to highlight all the AMERICAN flags that were there!! Even giving Gutierrez a cheesy quote about how much he wants American flags waving. He says "Get those American flags up there!" or words to that effect.

The massive Mexicanization of this has largely backfired. But remember about 4 years ago Pres. Fox went riding on a white horse through downtown Chicago surrounded by Mexicans?! This is disgusting, and the fact that these events come out of only Chicago, and are exaggerated at that, and during times when normal people are working, all adds up to diminish our opponents.

Of course it's important we address these things as we do. (special props to chicagolady in that department, she was all over the news that day!)
