Chicago police say as many as 100,000 protestors are gathering outside the Chicago Federal Center to voice their concerns about a house bill that would tighten immigration laws. The massive demonstration has blocked many streets in the Loop.

The border security bill would make it illegal to assist any undocumented immigrant. That measure is drawing the attention of numerous groups and lawmakers on both sides of the issue.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered at the Chicago Federal Center to protest the house bill 4437. They believe the bill discriminates against undocumented residents and those who try to help them and it robs them of a chance at the American dream.

Illegals lose right to in-state tuition
New law gives BOR power to create exclusive policy

An illegal immigration bill passed Wednesday in the state senate leaves in-state tuition for undocumented students to the discretion of the Board of Regents.

The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act, sponsored by state Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), targets employers who hire illegal immigrants and denies them most state benefits.

"Especially considering, most of them were out of control nut cases."

Why would you want those people to stay? Were or are any of the illegals you know family members?

You realize that giving those 12+ million permanent residency and eventual citizenship would give the dems a majority for the next 50+ years dont you?

OMG. What a horrible thought. I take back everything I said.

You've made the best argument I've read on these boards.

The closing of the stores probably sent more legals to the march. "Many" were I will agree. If there were 20 thousand at the march then 4000 would be many even 400 would be many.

That what I was saying about the sponsors of the groups many were Mexican neighborhood organizations.

I would not be surprised that the store owners had been subject to extortion demanding that they close to "support the People". It is a common tactic for these types.

A mass of flag-waving humanity jammed downtown Chicago this afternoon as tens of thousands of protesters rallied at Federal Plaza to demand more humane immigration laws.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Mayor Richard Daley and other political figures crowded onto the stage to speak to the crowd.

Noting Chicago was built by new arrivals to this country who simply wanted a share of the American Dream, Daley said, "We are not going to make criminals out of (immigrants). That is not what America has ever stood for."

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a Hispanic, drew cheers as he recognized Irish, Polish, Chinese and African-American rally participants.

No family members.

But my best friend in Florida is from Belize. Here almost 20 years. Overstayed his Visa and illegal for many years.

There is NOTHING for him to go back to. He's a hard worker. Always has a job but has been taken advantage of due to his status.

I can't see the benefit of kicking him out of the USA. He's basically American at this point.

Opposed to illegal immigration- Sandra Gunn of the Federation for American Immigration Reform joins members of the Illinois Minuteman Project on Friday in Chicago's Grant Park to speak in favor a federal bill that would crack down on illegal immigration. Behind Gunn are Rosanna Pulido, state director of the Minutemen, and Mike Madia, a supporter from Schaumburg.

What a circular pointless argument. I think many, probably less than a majority but not much less were illegals. Why? Because Chicago has an extremely large illegal population and this march was about illegal immigration. Seems like common sense. You think there were very few for some reason. I think any posts we make would reflect those views so we might as well end this line of debate.

So if he were turned into a guest worker youd be just fine with him deciding not to leave when his time was up? Sounds like you wouldnt support either the Bush proposal, or the Kyl/Cornyn bill. Both are temporary. Youre a McKennedy man alright.

no idea on who was legal or not, how could one know. The forced losing you float may not be all that crazy either.

To me the march came off as more "Well I'm Hispanic and any law that might affect my people is Racist - to heck with what's right and to heck with the old USA".

Illegals lose right to in-state tuition

New law gives BOR power to create exclusive policy

This article appears to be some major double talk. Right now, putting aside the scandal that illegals are even allowed into our universities (which is obscene), if they cannot show documentation they are allowed to pay out of state tuition.

With this change, the (no doubt corrupt) Board of Regents may just give them in-state tuition at will, they didn't "lose" anything. The headline, if I followed the intentionally confusing article correctly, is a complete mirage, and is designed to cover the fact that this new law gives instate tuition to illegals by pretending to delegate the already decided action to the Board of Regents. It also said something about free secondary education for illegals, which is a complete add on. What a dirty secret scheme!

WASHINGTON - Some 375 gang members have been arrested in 24 states and the District of Columbia over the past two weeks as part of a yearlong operation targeting gangs with criminal immigrant members, the Homeland Security Department said Friday.

~snips

In the two-week operation that began Feb. 24, law enforcement arrested 44 gang members in Dallas; 41 in San Diego; 22 in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area; 22 in Miami; and 19 in Raleigh, N.C.

Gang members were arrested in these states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia.

Federal officials have identified 5,000 Mara Salvatrucha gang members in a database, but the number of gang members in the country is unknown, making it difficult to determine the impact the arrests have had on its membership.

MS13 is one of the most dangerous gangs this country has seen
