Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

Return of dangerous street gangs in US challenges police

Swinging a machete in a threatening way could soon be a punishable offence in the state of Virginia.

The Virginia legislature is crafting a bill that applies specifically to machetes, as absurd as that sounds. The reason is that machetes are a favourite weapon of the Mara Salvatrucha, or MS- 13, which is among the most infamous and dangerous street gangs in the United States.

Founded in Los Angeles in the 1980s by El Salvadorans, MS-13 has spread across the US like the tentacles of an octopus, and is blamed for carrying out such heinous crimes that laws are being tailored to control the organization.

The violence includes the decapitations of victims, especially rival gang members, and the chopping off of hands.

'Rasputin' who preyed on mothers of Beslan is arrested
Daily Telegraph ^ | April 7, 2006 | Adrian Blomfield in Moscow

Posted on 04/07/2006 1:31:31 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

A self-styled mystic who claimed that he could resurrect children killed in the Beslan hostage crisis if their mothers paid him enough money has been arrested by police on suspicion of fraud.

Grigory Grabovoi, who claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, had been in hiding for months but was captured by police at a séance he was conducting in Moscow on Wednesday night.

Grabovoi earned notoriety by claiming that he could cure Aids, prevent plane crashes and raise the dead. He has announced he will run for the Russian presidency in 2008 and has pledged to abolish death if he wins.

He caused outrage when it emerged that he had inveigled his way into a group of mothers whose children were killed at Beslan.

Children made up more than half the 331 people killed when an attempt by Russian security forces to free hostages inside the town's school 18 months ago went disastrously wrong.

Grabovoi's hold over the group was so strong that it drew comparisons with Grigory Rasputin, the "Mad Monk" who exercised a sinister influence over Russia's last tsarina, Alexandra by claiming to be able to cure her only son of haemophilia.

A group of 11 mothers joined Grabovoi for a séance last September at which he promised to resurrect their children by the following month. There was widespread revulsion in Russia at what was seen as a base attempt to exploit some of the country's most desperate and unhappy women.

"RAPE KILLER GUILTY (illegal immigrant day laborer raped, murdered woman in home, bragged about it)

It took a jury less than four hours yesterday to convict an illegal immigrant of raping and murdering a vivacious stay-at-home suburban mom - and then luridly bragging about it to her friends and family on her stolen cellphone.

Douglas Herrera Castellanos faces life behind bars without parole at his sentencing next month"

Cindy, this is one of the most chilling crimes that I have ever read. I looked up a few more articles about this crime. This monster made approx. 51 calls to the murdered woman's family and friends from her cell phone. When this was initially reported the criminal's name was listed as Douglas Herrera, which would lead you to believe that he could be any old American criminal...but that is not the case he is an illegal immigrant. On the day that he murdered this woman, he was at her house to power wash their deck. He then entered the home and brutally murdered this 42 year-old mother of two.

So an illegal immigrant who is here and has a paying job...and yet he viciously murders an unsuspecting innocent woman in her home. We have become lulled into a false sense of security that these are poor immigrants who only want to work and have a better life...bull hockey!! We know nothing of their past. For all we know Mexico could be emptying their jails at our border.

JustPiper...this story and your great posts on the illegal situation led me to wonder, just how many crimes are being commited by illegals every day. I would like to see if we can start a listing...I am sure that it would contain some shocking information that is not being addressed by the MSM and certainly not by our Congress critters. I could actually start with the murder of 3,000+ Americans on 9/11....because if the immigration laws were being addressed...those who committed the murders that day would not have been able to enter and stay in our country.

I have a school field trip today...so I won't be back to TM until late in the day. But I look forward to any input that my TM friends can give me.

EVANGELIST KIDNAPPED IN NEPAL

By Roxanne Anderson, Build International Ministries
Special to ASSIST News Service

Kumar, a Nepali evangelist who was kidnapped by terrorists

KATHMANDU, NEPAL (ANS) -- Nepali evangelist Kumar was making plans to travel from his village to the capital city of Kathmandu for a worship conference in early March, when three Mao insurgents paid him a visit. They approached Kumar, and demanded a 5000 rupee “donation,” (about seventy US dollars) to support their cause. When Kumar couldn’t pay, they kidnapped him.

First the rebels forced Kumar to go with them one of their indoctrination meetings. In a secret location surrounded by over sixty armed men, Kumar listened as they shouted slogans and promoted their cause of fighting for democracy in Nepal. They told Kumar that he should stop following the foreign religion of Christianity and join them. They also said whatever money he was getting to do Gospel work, he must give to them instead. Although he was afraid, Kumar insisted he must continue doing the work of the Gospel.

Hearing this, the rebels took Kumar and forced him to work as their porter, carrying weapons. For fifteen days against his will, Kumar followed the Maoists on their military missions, carrying rifles and pressure cooker bombs. He had little to eat, and had to watch helplessly while the Mao threatened other villagers like himself to get food and money to support their army.

Nepali believers meeting in Kumar's house for prayer

Eventually, Kumar was able to borrow money to give to the Maoists so they would let him go. He was released on March 15th. Kumar returned to his wife and five young children and waited several days before again attempting to come to Kathmandu. This time he was successful.

Kumar’s experience is not an unusual one. In the past ten years of the ongoing Nepalese civil war, the Maoist guerrilla-based insurgency who say they are fighting for a democratic new Nepal have often used force and scare tactics to elicit support. People in isolated villages have little recourse. Meanwhile the already poor economy becomes worse as the political instability grows. Tourism, once one of the country’s largest sources of income, has dropped drastically as the violence in Nepal has increased.

And for gospel workers like Kumar, pressure comes from both the Mao rebels, and the Royal Nepal Army police who are loyal to the king. Any kind of gathering is looked upon with suspicion by the police, ever on the look-out for guerrillas. And the Mao rebels see every able-bodied man as a potential recruit or supporter of their cause. Christians are often caught in the middle.

In spite of these difficult conditions, last year Kumar shared the gospel with over 1000 people personally, and led 209 people to the Lord. He continues to meet in his home with a hand full of believers who live close by.

This is Kumar’s request as he prepared to return to his village, currently still occupied by the Mao: “Please pray for me that God will open doors and more people will be saved. Please pray for our needs to be met, as we are often hungry. Please pray for us and our country, as it gives us encouragement to move forward in Christ.”

Because of Kumar and others like him, the light of Jesus Christ shines brightly in Nepal, in the midst of instability, opposition and terrorism. Please pray for these believers.

If you would like to make a donation to help support Kumar in his gospel work, you may make a donation through: Build International Ministries, PO Box 540909, Grand Prairie, TX, 75054. Please mark your gift “Kumar,” and 100% will be donated to him personally.

FACT: There is a lot of evil in this world.
This puke was just one example.

Sorry if this has been posted already, you all probably know about it by now, but I've only just heard about this.

Out in the middle of the country in Missouri, an Iraqi claiming to be from Dearborn, MI, with 4 apparently stolen cars that he was moving not to mention a receipt for moving a large amount of money -- he was caught, but there had to be others who got away, because he couldn't have managed to drive all of them himself.

The title says only 2 cars, but on further info, there were 4 cars.

Iraqi Man Arrested in Rural MO w/ U-Haul plus 2 stolen cars and $25,000 money wire receipt

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1607280/posts

"The sheriff said when deputies arrived that night they found Malla about 50 yards off the road by himself, but there were four vehicles. When they asked him how that could be the sheriff says his answer just didn't make sense.

""He would tell one story one time than the next time you'd ask him the same question and it would be something totally different," said Sheriff Kevin Schroeder. "

Al Qaeda liked family man ploy, declassified papers show

WASHINGTON -- An alleged Al Qaeda sleeper agent arrested in West Peoria in December 2001 was picked for his work by Sept. 11 attack planner Khalid Shaikh Mohammed in part because the agent was married and had children, thus making him less likely to attract attention, new court documents show.

Ali Saleh Kahlab al-Marri, a Qatari national, was told to arrive in the U.S. before Sept. 11, 2001, and to head to Pakistan if he did not make it into this country before then, according to court papers filed in Charleston, S.C.

Al-Marri, his wife and five children arrived in the U.S. on Sept. 10, 2001, purportedly to study at Bradley University, authorities said.

The fresh details about al-Marri's alleged ties to Al Qaeda came from declassified portions of a sworn statement that has been the basis for detaining al-Marri as an enemy combatant.
(snip)

The declassified summary indicates that al-Marri traveled to Dubai in August 2001 and was given $10,000 to $13,000, plus $3,000 for a laptop computer, by Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, an Al Qaeda paymaster and a lieutenant of Mohammed.

The computer later was found to contain files on how to make hydrogen cyanide, a potentially lethal toxin, as well as more than 1,000 apparent credit card numbers and other financial data, which formed the basis of fraud charges originally lodged against al-Marri.

As luck would have it, I have reconnected with a man I used to work with about 10 years ago. We got to talking, and he told me about his wife, one Brigitte Gabriel, who is the founder and president of an organization called "American Congress for Truth". She is a an American citizen, by birth a Lebanese Christian, and her mission is to make the U.S. aware of what Islam really is by telling her story - how the muslims took her country away. From her website:

Her family's home was shelled and destroyed leaving her wounded. She lived underground in a bomb shelter from age 10 to age 17 without electricity and very little food. She had to crawl under sniper bullets to a spring to fetch water for her family. As fighting escalated, the Moslems overran all but hers' and a nearby town. The besieged Christians turned to neighboring Israel for help. The Israeli Defense Forces responded with food, water, and military support. As Brigitte came in greater contact with Israel through soldiers and doctors brought to the hospital in her town, she began to see the human side of people her Arabic culture, government and society had told her were the "enemy" for many years.

She now does lecture tours to try to wake people up to the threat of radical islam, and she has a book coming out in September. Her husband was quite surprised to find out that I knew what "dhimmi" meant, and he said "I wish more people knew about it."

I have a feeling I'm going to be working more closely with them to spread the word.
