Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

****The aliens arrested have been placed in removal proceedings, and will appear before a federal immigration judge who will determine whether they should be deported.

A termination notice has been served on AID Maintenance informing them that 140 of their employees are not authorized employment in the United States. The Homeland Security Department is continuing to investigate this case.***

Great work, I.C.E. Sure hope the termination notice is effective immediately.

Seminole Indian Administration Building Evacuated
Man Drops Off Suitcase Containing Vials

POSTED: 1:46 pm EST March 20, 2006

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Police say that a suitcase containing several vials was dropped in the lobby of the Seminole Indian Administration Building, and a comment made by the man who dropped it off led to an evacuation of the building.

A spokesperson for the tribe said that a man ran into the building carrying a metal suitcase at about 10:20 a.m. Monday. Witnesses said that the man yelled, "This is for the chairman," before running from the building.

The man was stopped outside by security workers. Once the suitcase was opened and several vials containing an unknown material were discovered inside, a hazardous materials team and the Broward Sheriff's Office bomb squad were called to the building that is located in the 6300 block of Stirling Road.

Once the man was in custody and the building was evacuated, investigators turned their attention to the white Volkswagen convertible that the man was driving. There was no word as to what they were looking for or what may have been found in the vehicle.

Employees were allowed back into the building at about 1 p.m.

The man is being questioned by BSO. There was no word as to what, if any, charges he faces.

Victory over Terror?

This panel discussion took place as part of "Restoration Weekend," on February 24, 2006, at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix -- The Editors.

Lt. General Thomas McInerney: We’ve got four panelists here. I’m going to give very light introductions. I want to say a few things about the intelligence summit and we’ll go in. They’ll devote their times, about 5-10 minutes, because we really want to thrust it back to you so we have strong audience participation. They’ll speak from sitting down. They’ll have a mike.

We’ve got Daniel Pipes, whom all of you know. Simply said, Daniel’s the foremost Middle East expert. Robert Spencer, who’s the director of the Jihad Watch. Phyllis Chesler. Phyllis has got 13 books. Robert only has 5. Finally, Steve Emerson, whom Bill O’Reilly always calls on when he wants to have an answer on the jihad

~Long but worth each sentence ;)

Thailand: Specialists on full alert following outbreak of bacterial which could be use as weapon
The Nation (Thai) ^ | March 21, 2006 | Nation Staff

Posted on 03/20/2006 7:48:19 PM PST by JimSEA

A serious disease outbreak in the northern province of Nan had Army weapons specialists and US disease investigators on full alert Monday.

Almost 150 people in the province have been stricken with botulism, a rare yet lethal bacterial disease that could potentially be used as a biological weapon.

Health authorities have sought international assistance treating the patients.

US military biological weapons experts have been flown into Nan, as have World Health Organisation disease specialists, said Thai Disease Control Department chief Thawat Suntharacharn.

Since March 4, 143 villagers in Nan's Ban Luang district have been diagnosed as suffering from botulism, a disease caused by toxins produced by several members of a group of bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum.

All of the patients reported having eaten dishes containing preserved bamboo shoots from the same batch at a merit-making feast in their village last week. Shortly after eating the shoots they began to suffer similar symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhoea, difficulty swallowing, dry mouths and muscle weakness, Nan chief health officer Dr Pisit Sriprasert said on Sunday. Of the 147, 33 are currently breathing with the aid of respirators, he said.

"This bacterium is among three strains that can be used as a biological warfare agent - the others are anthrax and smallpox," said Thawat.

Fears of a biological attack arose because of the number of people falling ill at one time.

Wonder if it was a 'true' shaker?

It is posted. Most likely an aftershock from the major quake that hit last fall. Had another 5+ in the same area within the last week too.

True vs. man-made? I don't know.

It is an aftershock from the big fall quake, second 5+ in a week.
