Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

IRAN ASSEMBLES IRBMs THAT INCLUDE SHIHAB

http://www.menewsline.com/stories/2006/march/03_21_1.html

LONDON [MENL] -- Iran has assembled intermediate-range ballistic missiles composed of indigenous and North Korean platforms that could strike almost anywhere in Western Europe.

Western intelligence sources said Iran has succeeded in coupling two IRBMs to reach a range of up to 4,500 kilometers. They said the platform, which could be fitted with a nuclear warhead, was comprised of the Iranian-origin Shihab-3 and the North Korean BM-25 missiles.

"The Iranians have achieved a major breakthrough in missile development with North Korean help that would allow Teheran to fire a nuclear missile toward Europe," an intelligence source said. "It's likely that Iran has already obtained at least one nuclear warhead. The threat of one mushroom cloud is enough to deter Europe."

On Jan. 17, Iran tested a missile prototype with a range of 4,000 kilometers, the sources said. They said the test was that of a Shihab-4, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

U.S.: Pakistanis Claim Removed From Flight Because Of 'Appearance'
Washington, 20 March (AKI/DAWN)

A Pakistani man and his son have filed a complaint with US federal officials claiming they were removed from an internal flight because of their appearance.

Fazal Khan, 59, and Mohammed Khan, 28, boarded a SkyWest Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Oakland, California, on Jan 31, 2006, wearing white skullcaps, tunics and loose trousers. Both men also have long beards.

A Balkan Base for Al Qaeda?
FrontPageMagazine.com | March 20, 2006

The War on Terror suffered a major blow three years before it was ever announced. It happened when the people of this democracy were misled into attacking the sovereign, emerging post-Communist democracy of Yugoslavia--over rumors of genocide and ethnic cleansing that proved false. In so doing, we put the final touch on delivering the Balkans to al Qaeda.

Today we are being asked to seal that historical blunder, whose repercussions seven years later are only escalating as those we “rescued” turn their weapons against UN and NATO forces. While NATO spends most of its time rooting out terror cells in Kosovo and Bosnia—which served as the logistics bases for the London and Madrid bombings--the 2006 deadline to complete our eagerly forgotten debacle and determine the province’s final status is fast approaching.

To persuade the international community that only one final status will be acceptable, our Albanian "rescuees" have been stepping up the violence, a message to the West that it has only one possible exit strategy: grant unconditional independence--without border compromises with Serbia and without protection guarantees for what’s left of the non-Albanian minorities.

Claim: Iran uses schools to hide nuke program
WASHINGTON, March 20 (UPI)

Iran is using academic institutions as a cover for research and development of its nuclear weapons program, a leading opposition figure said Monday.

"Given Tehran's record of lies and deceptions, using academic institutions to develop a nuclear bomb, makes it even more difficult to stop Iran's secret development of a nuclear weapon," said Alireza Jafarzadeh, president of Strategic Policy Consulting.

"There are (academic) nuclear sites involved in research and development of Iran's nuclear weapons program, which remain un-inspected by the (International Atomic Energy Agency) inspectors to date," he continued.

Jafarzadeh, who insisted his information was "precise and verified" from sources inside the hard-line regime, said they include Imam Hossein University of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Tehran.

Let me know if you can think of any more to add to the list.

. Living 20-50 people in a single home times an unfathomable number of homes in neighborhoods across America (someone on the coast posted in one of the earlier threads that they were breaking in unoccupied residences and living in boathouses)

. Refusal to adapt to the English language and forcing some school districts to think of hiring Mexicans from Mexico to teach the children of illegals in American schools

"Terrorism raid on jail: police accused"

By Tom Allard
March 21, 2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "POLICE have raided homes in Sydney and inmates' cells at Goulburn prison in a fresh counter-terrorism swoop.

The Herald learned that the raids - orchestrated by ASIO, the Australian Federal Police and NSW police - resulted in the seizure of several documents, including notes made by the terrorist suspect Omar Baladjam.

His lawyer, Greg Walsh, said the seizure was a serious breach of legal privilege. Baladjam, who had a bit part in Home and Away, was arrested in an anti-terrorism swoop in November and is in the Super Max wing of Goulburn prison.

A spokesman for the Australian Federal Police confirmed last night that the raids in Hoxton Park, Bankstown and Goulburn jail took place on March 9. He said the search warrants were in relation to Operation Pendennis, the 18-month investigation that has led to 20 arrests in Sydney and Melbourne since November.

Police say those raids foiled a terrorist attack on both cities, and that those arrested had plotted to buy large amounts of chemicals and detonators."

****Do they have keepers somewhere?****

I doubt it (they'd be keeping a safe distance from the idiots pictured). None of those people can ever be accused of having class.

Drudge played a Bill Mahrer (sp?) segment wherein Mahrer and Richard Belzer were shouting down a woman whose son (or son-in-law) had returned from Iraq. The two of them seemed to imply they knew more about the war in Iraq than the soldier did. It's just incredible how ignorant and obnoxious the anti-Bush - anti-war cheerleaders have become.

There is also a traveling "church" group (cult) that pickets and loudly protests at the funerals of America's fallen soldiers. The vile signs and despicable taunts at the survivors are worthy of a prison sentence IMHO.

Chertoff says families crossing illegally to be detained

Snip: Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the U.S. in May will open a detention center to house families caught illegally crossing the border, ending the practice of releasing some of those caught into the U.S.

The U.S. will speed the deportation process by stepping up pressure on the illegal aliens' home countries to accept their return, he said.

My question: What about the indivduals (not in family groups?)?

Coalition Forces Net Suspects, Weapons; Detainees Released

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, March 20, 2006 – Iraqi and coalition troops detained suspects and seized weapons caches throughout Iraq, and an Iraqi review board recommended the release of a number of male detainees being held in the country, Multinational Force Iraq officials reported.
In Salah Ad Din province today, Iraqi Army and Task Force Band of Brothers units continued "Operation Swarmer." The operation was launched March 18 to clear a suspected insurgent operating area northeast of Samarra, military officials reported. Today's operation yielded an additional three caches of small-arms ammunition and rocket-propelled grenades. The combined forces also detained three men suspected of terrorist ties. Since its start, local citizens have offered tips to aid the operation.

Combined operation participants include the 1st Commando Brigade, 1st Brigade of the 4th Iraqi Army Division; 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division; and 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, of the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division.

Elsewhere, after providing a tip to the whereabouts of a weapons cache yesterday, an Iraqi citizen led Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers to the site. While en route, the soldiers, of 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, in coordination with soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, observed a terrorist trying to set up a heavy machine gun near Iskandariyah. The soldiers killed the insurgent and detained two other terrorist suspects, and seized a weapons cache and four 55-gallon drums filled with weapons.

On March 17, soldiers from Multinational Division Baghdad's 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, detained three individuals suspected in a drive-by shooting in northwestern Baghdad. The soldiers transported the detainees to Camp Liberty. The detainees' vehicle contained multiple AK-47 assault rifles, a PKC rifle, cell phones and load bearing vests.

Elsewhere, elements of the 2nd Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, and an Estonian platoon, found a weapons cache while on dismounted patrol northwest of Baghdad. An Iraqi civilian tipped off the patrol to the cache, which contained 37 mm, 125 mm rounds, and .50 caliber rounds.

In other news, more than 350 male detainees were released from Theater Internment Facilities on March 18 at the recommendation of the Combined Review and Release Board, officials said. The Iraqi-led board, established in August 2004, is made up of members from the ministries of human rights, justice and interior, as well as officers from the multinational force. To date, the board has reviewed the cases of more than 29,800 detainees, recommending more than 15,600 individuals for release.

(Compiled from Multinational Force Iraq news releases.)
