US faces 'no greater challenge' than Iran

A war of words between the US and Iran continues to escalate, with both side digging in over Iran's controversial nuclear program.

After months of argument, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has referred the matter to the United Nations Security Council next week.

Iran insists its program is for peaceful purposes.

However, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that no country poses a greater challenge to America now than Iran.

"We may face no greater challenge from a single country than from Iran, whose policies are directed at developing a Middle East that would be 180 degrees different than the Middle East that we would like to see developed," she said.

Dr Rice also says Iran is determined to develop a nuclear weapon in defiance of the international community.

"This is a country that it seems is determined to develop a nuclear weapon in defiance of the international community that is determined that they should not get one," she said.

"It is a country that is the central banker for terrorism, whether that terrorism is in southern Iraq or in the Palestinian territories or in Lebanon."

Iran says it will develop its nuclear capacity, regardless of possible sanctions.

Its regime has warned sanctions may cause pain and harm for the West.

The US is refusing to rule out military action against Iran.

Sokay.

The Israelis have a plan.

It has to do with survival.

I think most of our isolationist friends don't realize how big a threat Iran could be.

Iran is already developing/buying missile technology. They are committed to the idea of the 12th Iman returning and want to help in that process. One possibility is that they want to detonate a nuclear bomb in our upper atmoshpere and knock out our electronics with the emp blast. Does this sound far fetched? Not to me. I look at these nuts and listen to what they say and they scare the heck out of me.

BTW, if they succeeded in knocking out our electronics what would China do?

I hope your right, but can they do it alone?

"...but can they do it alone?"

My belief is that the Israelis perceive themselves as alone and will do what is necessary to survive.

"Never Again".

We may face no greater challenge from a single country than from Iran ...

I think that there are more pressing problems in Iraq. They count Iraq as "solved", but I do not see it.
