Tacoma, WA Ride and Rally For The Troops III
On July 9, 2006, there will be an event, the third such, to show support of the military members currently deployed to the Middle East and their families. It is a motorcycle ride and rally that will begin and end at Destination Harley Davidson in Fife, with registration beginning at 8:00 AM, and departure time of 10:15 AM. It is an event created solely to give the general public an opportunity to demonstrate support visibly, and the money it generates is donated to support the troops and their families.
Recent news has noted a waning support of the US military presence in Iraq. President Bush continually feels compelled to go on television to explain the validity of what we're doing and why it will take longer to do it.
The political issue of our presence is more and more a lively ball, or hot potato, being bounced around in media discussions and news articles. No matter what the current political trend, no matter how congress or the President feel, and no matter what individual Americans feel about the topic, there are still military men and women in the Middle East. They are still doing the jobs they were sent there to do, leaving families behind, following orders, and putting their lives on the line every day.
This ride and rally is a chance for Americans here at home, enjoying freedom, to show support for those military folks and their families. This is not about where they are or what they're doing, but about Americans showing them that we're thinking of them and appreciate them for making the sacrifices that they are.
The Rally for the Troops is a bike (motorcycle) ride coupled with a rally, with music, food and entertainment. There are t-shirts and pins for registered participants or for purchase, and other items that will be sold or raffled, with all proceeds (including registration) going to support the troops and their families. US flags will be prominently on display, both on motorcycles and at the rally site, as well as along the ride route.
This event is non-political (it doesn't matter whether you believe our troops should or should not be in the Middle East), non-branding (it doesn't matter what kind of motorcycle you ride...or even if you ride one) and non-negative (celebrate the troops and their families in a positive, encouraging way). Here is the opportunity for everyone to make known their appreciation for the folks wearing the uniforms of our military, and the families that are behind them.

For immediate release: Mar. 1, 2006 Sen. Mike Carrell (360) 786-7654
Sen. Carrell calls for citizen involvement in Freedom Bridge proposal.
OLYMPIA Youve probably seen them as you drive on I-5 near Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. Supporters of our nations armed servicemen and women routinely gather along the Berkeley Street overpass, tying yellow ribbons along the railings, holding American flags and waving to fellow supporters as they cruise beneath.
For several years, Sen. Mike Carrell, R-Lakewood, and Rep. Gigi Talcott, R-Tacoma, have been pushing to rename the overpass at Exit 122, Freedom Bridge. By law the authority to rename the overpass rests with the Transportation Commission, and although both legislators have sent letters to the Commission, more citizen input is needed.
The overpass not only serves as a bridge over our states most traveled arterial, said Carrell, it has also become a symbolic platform from which citizens can patriotically exclaim their respect for the men and women serving in our military as well as show their love for our country and have these feelings reciprocated by those passing below.
Carrell and Talcott have organized a meeting where citizens can gather to support the name change, and also satisfy the Commissions policy that requires evidence of community support before renaming state facilities. The meeting will be held at the Washington National Guard Headquarters Building 33, Camp Murray, in Tacoma, on Saturday, Mar. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. There will be a rally on the bridge after the meeting.

Working late and sleeping in to do it all over again on Saturday. Rats!
Yeah yeah. Excuses excuses. =)
Thanks for the ping! I went last year... what a blast.
BTTT I LOVE those rides. But THIS time I want to be on a motorcycle instead of watching them go by! :)
