Well, I read the Q, and I would buy Apple now for the bump on the announcement, then short them into oblivion. The number than leaps out at me is the cash flow difference between 9/05 and 12/05, which is probably what has finally convinced Apple that they cant sustain their model any longer. Since their costs will drop, good things will happen in the short term, but once the problems start, look out.

I guess my proof would be experience.

Then my experience is that most computer users are either liberal, conservative or middle of the road... and the choice of computer platform has little to do with the user's political ideology.

That would be like saying that Democrats prefer GM cars while Republicans prefer Fords... Greens, of course, prefer bicycles...

I will leave it as I greatly disagree with with your assessment of Rusty's infuence on Apple. I believe the iPod/iTunes had about 99.9999% to Rusty's 0.0001% affect on Apple's recovery.

Apple was in OK shape before iPod... but I will agree that dissatisfied PC users and the general public who have had their first real experience with Apple products through the iPod will be more inclined to consider Apple computers because of their experience with the iPod.

However, it is not my assessment of Rush v. iPod we were discussing... I merely PINGED the Mac Ping list.

My disagreement is with your assumption of the myth that Mac users are generally liberal.

My experience is actually the opposite. Most of the Mac users I know are somewhat to the right of Atilla the Hun. That is probably because I associate with people who are somewhat to the right of Atilla the Hun and many of my associates have Macs... and PCs... in about the same proportion as Consumer's Reports and Popular Science Magazine separate polls found exist in the general population... 14% Mac users and the balance PC with a very small sprinking of Linux. While I do know some very liberal Mac owners (Mrs. Swordmaker is a teacher) ... I also know more very conservative Mac owners.

I should say, also, that the majority of the teachers my wife knows, although very liberal, use Windows PCs... I know... I often fix them.

You mean Rush is not getting money from Apple? (astonished). He does lavish apple every time he gets a chance... for nothing?

I've been to all these places, and I can tell you that the makeup is at least 70% libs to 10% conservative to 20% middle of the road -

- Apple Campus in Cupertino
- WWDC & Macworld
- 100% of the Apple user groups I've even been to.

You may know a couple people you associate with who happen to own macs. But I know LOTS of mac users.

What is interesting about this change is that Limbaugh's experiment with subscription-based podcast downloads via iTunes could also eventually expand to other Premiere Radio properties, notably the Jim Rome sports talk show, the Dr. Laura talk show, and the Coast to Coast AM overnight talk show, too.
