"....and NO, you can't use our ports or land to stage an Iran invasion!" I doubt they would let us anyway seeing how they are quite friendly with Iran....
'Iran-UAE stress expansion of relations in all areas'
Abu Dhabi, March 6, IRNA-Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Mostafavi and Deputy Emir and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammad ben Rashid al-Maktoum stressed Monday expansion of relations between Iran and UAE in all areas.
Mostafavi lauded al-Maktoum on his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties and invited him for a state visit to Tehran.
Mostafavi also briefed the Dubai's ruler on the Iranians positions on Iraq and Palestinians developments, and described the trend of Iran-Russia talks on Tehran resolve in acquiring peaceful nuclear technology.
In the meeting, which was also attended by Iranian ambassador to UAE and several UAE ministers, Sheikh Mohammad also voiced his country's resolve in strengthening bilateral relations.... http://www.payvand.com/news/06/mar/1062.html

We are building schools, hospitals, roads, Mosques, water plants and electrical facilities in Iraq as we speak and selling F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan this year not years from now. We did much the same in Japan and (West) Germany. We equiped their military, against the ChiCom and the Soviets, we helped them rebuild their country.
But you'll notice I spoke of Islamist terrorists. I don't include the government of either Pakistan or the UAE in that, not most of it anyway. Paki F-16s aren't going to be dropping nukes in New Jersey, although possibly in the Punjab. I don't necessarily think that's great idea anyway.
Another difference is that the Islamists haven't surrendered, the Japanese militarists and the German Nazis had.
So until they do, and for some time afterwords(they having no compunction against "tempory truces" with infidels) we need to "Trust but Verify". That's all I want, some extra scrutiny, not a ban.

Hahaha, just remarking about our buds from the immigration threads throwing the race card around like ninja stars :-D
I can't for the life of me understand where the race card comes in on this particular subject.

People need to realize that foreign ( Yes even ARAB!) airlines already control some of their own terminals . The whole threat of Dubai was greatly exaggerated because people forget that law enforcement practically has unlimited authority in the ports anyway.

LOL I almost started to go off on you after reading the first sentence. I'm getting tired but I read on. Thankfully! ; )
You have done an outstanding job of research and follow up! And not a bad job of satire there either. Watch out writer33!

I can't figure out why FReepers are relying more and more on lib-type allegations, like 'racist, bigot, isolationist, knee-jerk,' etc. Also, 'conservative' has become an insult to hurl. There's a peculiar class of FReepers represented on this other thread I just found: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1593617/posts.
I'm not sure who or what they represent, but they are turning against this country to a degree I have never seen on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. Six days sounds much too long to respond to a serious situation. Sounds too long for getting resupply and task force support too in an emergency situation. As a civvy I have to take Gen. Abhazid (sp?) at his word that the UAE has been "absolutely vital."

HUNTER: Which he did in private session, and he was asked that question. So to his credit and to Tommy Franks' credit, Lou, those guys have seen when we have been moving men and material into war, they have seen the Dubai government and a UAE that has accommodated us. The problem is they accommodate the bad guys when that's in their interest. This is what makes these discussions so frustrating. The Quran specifically says it's okay to lie to infidels. That would be us. We're supposed to trust them with our ports? How stupid are we?

The Navy isn't portside in UAE on a diplomatic mission. They're portside there because it is sufficiently secure. Maybe, even probably, but none of us have any way of knowing that. It would be interesting to know what threatcon is set for any ships in port there.

Why try to squeeze water out of a rock? And if they decide to disinvite our military assets from the Port of Dubai, we'll be a thousand miles from the Iranian fleet rather than thirty. Situations like that is why we have fleet replenishment ships and practice UnRep (Underway Replenishment). Same reason the Air Force has Tanker aircraft, pretty much anyway.

Law enforcement is buried just keeping up with the homegrown gangs and illegals. Understaffed and hogtied by PC, how are they supposed to squash terrorist threats and interests?

"Score one for the Know-Nothings."
NOTE : The following post does not apply to
those FReepers who are
1) Active Duty
2) Those with disabilities
3) Care givers of those with disabilities
4) Those with financial hardships
5) Those who actually support our troops in other ways.
IF people REALLY cared, they would get away from the computer and actually do something,
in the real world, to actually assist Homeland Security.
I've done it each and every week,
often more than once a week,
since Oct 2001
I don't receive a dime and even pay for my own uniforms.
The choice is either "listen" to all the pros and cons
or actually be part of the solution.
http://nws.cgaux.org/visitors/ps_visitor/index.html PS You'll have to leave your "politics"
at the door while you wear the uniform.

But the main factor is that it's nearly impossible to get the bid on the lease in the first place. Perhaps with the uproar over this, and the limelight being shed on what companies are currently in the ports, Congress will take a look at these things.
I hope they will. I am not a Bush basher, and I was more concerned about all the foreign countries in our ports than just this one deal. I know from here about port protection, however in my mind it should be fundamental that Americans are the overwhelming majority in any management of the ports.
In the long run, I do not believe that this will hurt our ties with Dubai. I firmly believe that our forefathers would be aghast with the current situation in our nation's ports.
There are many civil service jobs on the state level that require you to live in the city/town that the position is open in. I can't imagine any reasonable U.S. citizen or foreign head of state finding that an unreasonable requirement when it relates to our ports and hubs of commerce.
