Haliburton is one of the few American companies that can run the logistics of a terminal.
Hey, as long as they have squared away the issues with the army in Iraq, let em have at it.

I vote for WalMart.Hey, look at the bright side, all the tugboats 'll get a fresh coat of blue paint, there'll be a McDonald's on every pier, and the good shippin' crews 'll be able to get their film developed in about an hour while they shop for snack foods and clean underwear.

Yet, the Chinese were still able to use their line and terminals to smuggle weapons in to L.A. for gangbangers to use.
Dubai: We will allow you to use our ports, intelligence networks and airfields to fight against terrorism.
"True Conservative": You are nothing but a bunch of terrorist arab muslim SOB's!!
Dubai: Er, ok. We will open up investment and provide first class service to your military and support personnel.
"True Conservative": You are nothing but a bunch of terrorist arab muslim SOB's!!
Dubai: Hmmmm. We will make major purchases of aircraft from Boeing and provide port facilities in case you need to take action against Iran.
"True Conservative": You are nothing but a bunch of terrorist arab muslim SOB's!!
Dubai: Ok, fine. You don't want us to control port managment in your country. Great, we don't want it now. In fact, maybe we don't want to do business with you at all.
"True Conservative": What!?! Way to backstab us!! I told you they are nothing but a bunch of terrorist arab muslim SOB's, didn't I!!

Port security WILL NOT change no matter who runs the port. The argument has been, but two of the highjackers were from the UAE. Yeah and Richard Reed, aka the shoe bomber, was a British citizen and Mohommed Atta trained in Germany. Cripes some of the highjackers learned how to fly jets in the U.S. I guess we can't run them either. This whole port deal has been fueled by panic and an uneducated public.
BINGO!!!

Exactly.
Perfect summation.

The ports are going to be secured by the US Coast Guard and Customs, regardless of who "runs" the ports. What else do you need to frickin' know!! The other bidders were a Singapore company (largely muslim) and Hong Kong company and a Dutch company. Does that really make you feel better.

Is it possible, in your opinion, to disagree W and not be anti-Bush? Just wondering,,,
To: KOZ.
Right, but as mentioned by others on the thread, what US company WANTS to run the ports considering high labor costs, govt. regulations, etc?
To: clawrence3
It's not Halliburton - DWP purchased another "American" company this morning and will transfer P&O terminal operations over there - no big deal.wishful thinking....or....Do you know the name of this company?

When the peaceful Muslims declare a religious civil war on the Jihad Muslims, I may agree that there is a redeeming value to Islam. Until then the "peaceful" Muslim's silence on Terrorism is support for it and makes them just as culpable in it's execution.

REPLY:
I highly resent your statement that Americans are ignorant.
If what you say has a modicum of truth, then what are you doing posting on FR.
I thought American bashing was just something confined to the DU and al Qaeda but you evidently think we conservatives need a bitter dose of their nitpicking anti-American medicine.
