DPW may create a subsidiary that is wholly US-owned. Same people, different legal and tax structure. Then why not do that in the first place? I'm just wondering if that would be enough to get around the problems that make the deal less than attractive for American companies.

I told everyone from day one of this story - no way this deal goes through "as is". some compromise was always in the cards. unfortunately, the white house damaged itself politically by not seeing that on the Sunday after the story broke.

DC sniper was neither
CORRECTION!
There were 2 of them, and they were both converts to islam. John Allen MOHAMUD, the elder, attended the same mosque in Baton Rouge,LA. that SGT.Assan Ahkbar, of the 101st Airborne, did to fraging his own officers during the 2nd GW.
But, hey, let's avoid that topic...it's un-PC, and bad PR for America.

For crying out loud, we have spies in Britain and Israel. What makes you think we trusted Dubai so much that we wouldn't spy on them also. We'll still have intel. It may even be better intel now that it won't be filtered by a so called ally that turned their back on America over a business deal. Really? Didn't some in the UAE meet with Bin Ladin? hmm seems like some good intel to me. Also they know things about Iran, seems like some good intel to me.

he fact that they pulled out so early in the 45 day review period makes one wonder if there wasn't something more to this that would have been discovered by a more thorough review.DPW pulled out because Congress was going to nix the deal, not because DPW was afraid something would be discovered.
More likely, our politicians were afraid something was going to be discovered, about themselves, so they didn't want to let the investigation proceed.

Congratulations to all the "nuke them all" crowd.
Now Rumsfeld will have to work even harder to gain support for the WOT.

Only now is CNN giving the facts about this deal.

They're try to help us (and Bush) attempt to save face after the Congressional blow up. Thank you, UAE.
This will cost us, I hope it's just not going to come in the form of another 9/11.

Dubai Ports says it will sell US piece of deal to another investor.
And this investor will be in some way related to Schumer...

H'mmmm. Appears the Emirates speak with forked tongue...just today it was reported:
"The vote in the House of Representatives has not change anything in that respect. We are not at that point," one Dubai-based source said.

I'm speculating all around, you understand, but creation of a subsidiary dilutes control and complicates business and tax matters.
The only way ANY company, American or not, will buy into this is if they can turn a profit for their shareholders. Nonbdy can be forced to buy the interest or operate the terminal.
At any rate, my general point is that it's simpleminded to look at the sale as an "all or nothing" or "all has to go to the same place" arrangement.
Is Schumer going to kick Emirates Air Freight out of JFK?

This proves that they were no friends of ours in the first place and congress has done the right thing (for a change)!!! How does it do that?
All it proves that if our congresscritters won't let them do business here they need to sell off their interests here.
