Planned Parenthood South Dakota Plans to Defy Law, Continue Committing Abortions

States have the last say. This law will most likely be struck down, but not because it is illegal, but because the SCOTUS acted illegally with roe vs wade. ABSOLUTELY. Maybe it's time for state governments to start using a little "civil disobedience" of their own (if that's the proper phrase) & completely ignore the SCOTUS when or if they do strike down the South Dakota law. Didn't Thomas Jefferson say something to the effect of "...let them enforce it" re: the SCOTUS? The states need to begin to assert their 10th Amendment right to govern themselves for a change!

The creeping infringement by the Federal Goverment in states' internal matters is unsettling. That said, if many states ban abortions outright, it will create new problems as well. I think the status quo where abortion before viability is legal, but with reasonable state regulation, is okay for now.

A sharp entrepeneur could probably make a quick buck just running a daily bus line to the nearest clinic across state lines.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Watch abortion clinics open up just across the border in neighboring states.

Probably not enough business to be profitable. I think SD has like 800 abortions a year. That said, there's nothing to stop women from traveling to neighboring states or Canada if they really want to.

We also have State law. Abortion should never have been made legal. Roe v. Wade was based on lies and therefore should not stand as the law of our land. Anything that can tople this law is fine with me.

New laws in South Dakota don't go into effect until the July 1st following the legislative session unless the legislature includes an emergency clause...not the case here. I am sure there will be a court injunction in place to stop any enforcement of this law during the appeal process so there really won't be any defiance of the law even after July 1st. It will be business as usual for Planned Parenthood in South Dakota until such time as a definitive court decision is rendered. If the law is rejected from consideration by a federal appeals court...all this effort is simply moot and nothing will have even temporarily changed.

Interesting issue for me...I am pro-choice, but I am also a strong states' rights advocate. I think that if the people of South Dakota want to ban abortions, then they should be allowed to do so. Women can just go to a neighboring state to get the abortion done, anyway. It seems the main reason for this law is to set up a challenge in the SCOTUS over Roe v. Wade in the new "more conservative" Court. The pro-lifers may be in for a rude shock, however, because both Roberts and Alito are Constitutional conservatives, and will likely NOT vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, but keep the status quo, which is "let each state decide".

With choice is consequence. be it good or bad.

I do believe it is a poor choice to terminate a pregnancy based on convenience. I also believe that a woman/girl who so chooses is not capable in making correct choices all together. Like I stated, if you think it's an expectant mother having an abortion, what is she expecting to be a mother of? You make a choice, you must face the consequences.

And I agreed with you, States should have the final say...it isn't a federal issue.

They better fry these murdering sacks of crap. I was outraged that nothing has happened to the freaks that said screw the law we are issuing gays marriage licences, and now this. These lefties need to be taught a lesson in the law and respect.

Roe is outright unconstitutional, but the other branches of government have indeed waved their power. This is largely because of three reasons. 1) Leftists controlled Congress for most of the post-war years. They ideologically agreed with the left-wing power grabs the Court began making after the war, so they let them stand. 2) Leftists have controlled the media, so they likewise have enshrined leftist rulings as "historic landmarks", painting them as sacrosanct and inviolable. 3) Politicians of all stripes would rather have hot button issues decided by the Court. Remember when Arnold said he thought the "gay marriage" issue should be decided by the courts? As the courts have seized unconstitutional power, politicians have allowed them to get away with it to avoid having to take a firm stand on divisive issues.

Well, thats it then. We'll just have to bring in the bulldozers and have Licenses and Inspections knock down their abortuary as a threat and hazard to human life and health.
