Planned Parenthood South Dakota Plans to Defy Law, Continue Committing Abortions

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota, March 9, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota (PPMNS) said it will defy a law passed Monday that bans all abortions in the state.

“We will not abandon the women of South Dakota,” said Sarah Stoesz, PPMNS President and CEO, according to a release. “Our clinics in South Dakota will remain open and we will continue to serve the women and men of this state by providing family planning services, emergency contraception, and safe, legal abortion care.”

On Monday, South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed into law the first abortion ban in the United States since the 1973 Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade decision. The bill, House Bill 1215, passed with strong bi-partisan support in both houses and makes abortion a felony in the state, punishable by up to five years imprisonment. It is to go into effect this July.

Stoesz also vowed to challenge the new law in court. “Planned Parenthood will challenge this law in order to protect the health and rights of the women and families we serve,” she said.

Meanwhile, a South Dakota pro-life advocate who was instrumental in promoting the law there was the victim of harassment and vandalism. Leslee Unruh, who founded the Alpha Center to encourage pregnant women to choose life, told Focus on the Family’s CitizenLink news that her family has become a target from pro-abortion zealots.

Unruh related to CitizenLink how her home has been splattered with eggs and that coat hangers have been left in their mailbox. Her husband’s chiropractic office has also been targeted by pro-aborts leaving dead animals on the grounds, with some employees afraid to come into work. She was even told by her favorite coffee shop not to come back.

“They said, ‘We have a choice as to who we serve, and we choose not to serve you,’” she related. “They were careful to emphasize the word ‘choice.’”

Uh, no you won't. Until a federal judge issues an injunction against this law, you will stop. Democracy has spoken. As an aside, this is how things are going to play out on a national scale IMO. (ignoring laws and whatnot)

That's OK, there are plenty of empty jail cells worth filling with martyr Dr.'s.

Slap a huge bond on the first one and then see if you can find another Dr. to come and do them.

This is actually what NEEDS to happen in order for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Someone needs to violate the law, be convicted and then go to court over it. Hopefully this murdering piece of garbage will be sitting in prison while it all gets worked out.

I am not sure I understand your post, are you saying the Supreme Court can make laws? How has the Supreme Court ruling on this issue made it impossible for the SD State Legislature to pass laws?

Maybe I missed the /sarcasm tag?

>>>punishable by up to five years imprisonment.

Which party does this law punish. The mother, the doctor or both?

BS, the supreme court is the one who broke the law by ignoring the constitution and making a ruling in an area that is the states right to control.

States have the last say. This law will most likely be struck down, but not because it is illegal, but because the SCOTUS acted illegally with roe vs wade.

Then he needs to dispatch the State Troopers to shut down the clinics and arrest the employees and persons seeking abortions, and charge the district attorneys to prosecute them under that law and RICO...

No doctors in South Dakota preform abortions. They have to bring in doctors from Minnesota. I don't think a doctor from Minnesota will risk sitting in a South Dakota jail until a Federal Judge makes a ruling.

The South Dakota State Government can and has passed a law that doesn't conflict with Roe vs. Wade.

BTW, We do live in a republic and the people of South Dakota have spoken.

>>Uh, no you won't. Until a federal judge issues an injunction against this law, you will stop.

Why do you think they will keep performin abortions? So SD will step in and try to prevent them, thereby triggering a court challenge.

This is a giant political game of chess, where both sides are setting traps for the other...

I hope that the case only goes to a state federal court and that those judges refuse to listen to the case. The 10th Amendment states that all powers that are not given to the federal government, in the Constituion, are reserved for the states. The Constitution doesn't mention abortion, so federal involvement must be unconstitutional.

I hope that every state will pass laws like South Dakota's.

You are correct.

The mother of what? You have to have a child to be a mother.

If you consider it a child, then abortion is murder.
