Oh so that is how it is? The truth comes out. Now that they can not get what they want they are going to try and BLACKMAIL the USA into bending over and grabbing our ankles and giving it to them anyway? Right, who will they run to when Alkadia decides it is time to take the UAE down?

True "friends" stick with/by you whether they get what they want or not. Sure this deal fell through and with good reason as far as I am concerned. But the good old USA has and is doing a ton for the UAE, but I guess that does not count if your ultimate goal is a subserviant dhimmi sp? USA. Ny tagline says all I need to know about Islam.

It will be interesting to see how our so called UAE business partners react to the normal give and take of business or are they just too fragile, vindictive and prone to easy manipulation.

Yes, I'm surprised that the ports deal defenders are using this as an "I told you so" moment. Seeing the UAE resort to economic blackmail to save the deal makes me trust them even less. Why is it so important for them to have a hand in American port operations?

No sh*t. That goes both ways, and we're the ones starting the nastiness.

You've got a warped view of friendship. A "true friend" doesn't call you a terrorist. They don't spit in your face and stab you in the back. That's what the anti-port faction is doing.

Blackmail? Are you kidding? If they were the ones saying WE were untrustworthy and shouldn't be allowed to do business in their country, what would you be saying then? We just slapped them in the face. They are reacting accordingly.

Your crazy. If the situation was reversed, we would be telling them to go to hell. I'm not surprised, but I'm very disappointed. The UAE has been a true friend in the war on terror. They stepped into harms way to help us, and our foolish leaders call them terrorist for politic points.

Republicans don't deserve to lead anymore.

That may be true of "friends", but there is a huge difference between a "friendship" and an "alliance".

You are an ass.

UAE has put itself at tremendous risk by allying with the US. Our ships port there safely. Our troops vaca there. We also have an air base there. Their support was essential to our Iraqi liberation and continuing support for it.

They also land two flights a day from the UAE Airlines in Dulles, overflying the US capital twice a day - among other airports. They have gates there and at other airports.

And now, after all of that, the US House and Senate almost unanomously say that the same family that has made the UAE safe for us may not have a partial ownership in a multinational because they are essentially Osama-style raghead terrorists.

On a very personal level, this would be like having the brother you have pulled out of one mess after another and then to have him tell the police a fabrication that you a child molester.

Put yourself in their shoes a moment and think about it.

I believe this quote is appropriate:

They were sticking with us when they were not getting what they wanted. They gave in and agreed to the investigation.

Also, the deal did not fall through, some people pushed it over a cliff (a committee in congress voted to block it before any investigation was even started). This was congress hi-jacking foreign policy and commerce from the executive branch. It is not oversite, it is hi-jacking.

Are you for preventing investigations? That is what 1 committee in congress did.
