I was just going to look it up myself. I was pretty sure it was a substitute teacher though.

Thank you. I wasn't sure and I use the "when in doubt" rule. :)

As the old saying goes: "Two countries, divided by a common language."

There is a great Japanese movie called "Battle Royal" where this happens. A poorly behaved class of 8th graders is jacked by their former teacher and placed on an island. They are forced to kill one another and the last one standing is aloud to leave. It is all filmed for a reality show and it becomes a huge hit with Japanese adults. Great movie!

A supply teacher is what the Brits call a substitute teacher. (I had to look it up...)
Thanks I was sitting here scratching my head.

Frenchman with a gun? Isn't that a contradiction?
Hey Pierre, the end with hole in it goes toward the hostages. Better yet, the end with the hole in it goes toward you!

Hey Pierre, the end with hole in it goes toward the hostages. Better yet, the end with the hole in it goes toward you! No, no, no -- the end with the hole goes toward the floor, in case the gun goes off when you drop it to free your hand for holding the white flag.

LE MANS, France - A former teacher armed with a handgun and reportedly suffering from depression took 23 hostages Thursday, most of them students, in a high school classroom before surrendering, police said.
The 33-year-old one-time teacher turned himself in, after holding the hostages captive throughout the afternoon and early evening, police and local officials said. Details of the surrender were not immediately available

Now that he has surrendered watch this story drop off the radar screen, news-wise, and his name will never be released.
