****The architecture of 21st-century geopolitics is changing fast, due to the rise of China and India ("New Nuke Ally," March 3). The United States wants India to expedite its transition from a significant Asian power to a leading global power for its own interests, as well as for the benefit of all democracies. No one appreciates India's contribution to international businesses more than the United States. President Bush knows that if we do not assist India with its uranium requirements now, our opinion regarding international access to India's cutting-edge nuclear technology won't matter. Bush would like to provide civilian nuclear assistance to India now, in hopes of access to the virtually unlimited nuclear power that only Indian scientific brilliance can provide. ****It's amazing that thousands of protesters came out in India against Bush and the United States, yet Indians are one of the largest groups of recent immigrants here. I guess our foreign policy looks different when you are enjoying all the perks of a Western lifestyle. Ann Rychlenski South Ozone Park

This is an op-ed, not really a news item, but the NYT has, Ive noticed been almost fanatical in its opposition to this deal.
Theyve been loudly telling us how this will make it harder to get Iran to give up its nuclear program. Apparently theyre under the impression that Iran is very keen to throw up its hands and stop making nuclear bombs, because the NYT says it should.
And, oh but for this nuke deal, thats exactly what would have happened (snort).
Ive also noticed that its one of the papers that likes to use euphemisms such as "suspected militants", with
"islamic" appearing in the last paragraph.
As to the protests in India, which this reader, who is only expressing her opinion (and that cant be counted as news, or reliable reporting) is blathering about, they were held by muslims, and communist parties in India. Enough has been said about the popularity of both Bush, and the United States in India.
"Thousands" out of one billion isnt even a drop in the ocean.
Rabid hippy liberal newspapers such as the NYT are best ignored.
Excellent reply!!!
That second lady, who is probably the last white person left in South Ozone Park, needs an education as to the internal politics of India. I love the Post, but it does attract folks from all portions of the bell curve.
Dick Morris told Bill Clinton that the secret of power was "triangulation". Perhaps you remember.
China and India have been rivals and enemies for thousands of years. What you see lately is the United States taking up a "triangulated" position vis-a-vis China and India.
The New York Times is a very important propaganda organ. The way to approach propaganda is with the question "Why did they write/say/show that?" "Why is this article in the paper/on television/in the news?" Remember that what the media sell is you.
Whoops, that was the NY Post, not Times. Anyway, my comments about NYT stand.
This was a wierd sort of a post anyway.. just a bunch of comments by readers.
I happened to notice a bizarre anti-India cartoon in my local lefty newspaper this morning. I think India is going to be on the left's new love-to-hate list, for some reason, possibly because it is not Islamic, is not communist - or rather, has both groups but keeps them under control - and actually appears to be an ally of the US. The left only likes our enemies.
The chicoms want is DEAD just as badly as al qaeda... they just do not have the ability to do business with us. chicoms will have us finance their war on America.
We will defeat them too, but we will have to defeat the dims and libertarians (buchanaites) first!

There action line is to viscerally oppose anything the President does. If its good for the country -- oppose it, if its bad for the country (very rarely)-- oppose it. They don't give a rat's behind about US-India strategic relationship, or if the Ports deal posed a genuine security threa. They opposed it just because Bush was behind them.
