Negative Perception Of Islam Increasing
Washington Post ^ | March 9, 2006 | Claudia Deane and Darryl Fears

As the war in Iraq grinds into its fourth year, a growing proportion of Americans are expressing unfavorable views of Islam, and a majority now say that Muslims are disproportionately prone to violence, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The poll found that nearly half of Americans -- 46 percent -- have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Muslims were often targeted for violence.

Conservative and liberal experts said Americans' attitudes about Islam are fueled in part by political statements and media reports that focus almost solely on the actions of Muslim extremists.

According to the poll, the proportion of Americans who believe that Islam helps to stoke violence against non-Muslims has more than doubled since the attacks, from 14 percent in January 2002 to 33 percent today.

Not exactly. Other Christians, to my knowledge, are not out stamping out Episcopalians, although it is true that Episcopalianism has less and less to do with Christianity every day. And Christianity, furthermore, does not tell its followers to slaughter anybody who doesn't accept it.

The problem with Islam is that it does, and because orthodox Islam can only be one that is based on a literal reading of its perverted "scriptures" as spoken through the mouth of some mullah who is preferably a descendant of Mohammed, the crazies have the upper hand over other, more lax Muslims who perhaps practice an Islam that is simply a cultural thing. I think the latter are genuinely afraid, and I can't say I blame them.

There are other lies buried in that article. For example, I had to laugh when I read about the Bush administration's attempt to hire an Arab company to manage operations at six of the nation's ports

So now the administration is 'hiring' the company from Dubai? As if the six-plus-billion-dollar acquisition of the current British-owned port operator had nothing to do with it, and instead it is the administration doing the "hiring"? Bzzzzzzt... Wrong answer... And bizarre, too...

The Compost is still trying to figure out were we got that negative perception. Maybe it was on 9/11? Nah, that couldn't be it.

Nope, that's not it. Most folks recognized 9/11 as the work of some isolated whackjobs.

The negative perception of Islam is growing for the simple reason that Muslims have been behaving very badly, over really stupid things.

The watershed event is their ridiculous over-reaction to the cartoons.

I personally do not see why I should endanger my life and my families trying to be politically correct.

Why pretend being nice towards a people who have announced their intentions to kill me and my family.

There are more Americans listening than you think.

The politically correct crowd thought they were winning.

As usual the liberal anti-American crowd thought they could change attitudes by outlawing legislating thought control.

Increasing is good, but I am shocked that it is as low as 46%.

I'm tired of the liberal left trying to legislate how I should think about those who have avowed to slaughter me and my family.

The Muslims have a Dark Ages mentality that can only be characterized as out and out mental illness by todays norms.

These barbarians will never assimilate into any society.

Muslims are like a sore that never heals but continues to fester until it turns cancerous.

Letting Muslims live in a Christian dominated country is like having a child molester living next door to an elementary school.

Nothing may not happen right away but down in your heart you know that something will eventually go badly wrong.

Muslims say their a religion of peace.....well actions speak louder than words..........................

I just had to send an e-mail to the authors of this article at the Washington comPost.

Get this line in the article:

"The survey comes at a time of increasing tension; the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq show little sign of ending, and members of Congress are seeking to block the Bush administration's attempt to hire an Arab company to manage operations at six of the nation's ports.

I asked the authors to explain to me how the Bush administration is "hiring" DPW to manage the ports.

I appreciate the encouragement- it does seem that information is trickling into people's awareness via the alternate media. A year ago, the wife-unit here ( former Democrat ) looked somewhat askance at my growing distaste for Islam-- after directing her to MEMRI, and some of my links, she was heard muttering "religion of pieces..."

Read Naipaul's book twenty years ago. I thought he was unfair until the suicide bombings in Israel started. He is right on the money.

When a person reads anything about fundamentalist Muslims you quickly catch the fact that anyone considered an infidel is expendable.

These people would set back the entire world into the Dark Ages.

Clockwork Orange will seem like a fairy dream compared to the Middle East book burners.

"I asked the authors to explain to me how the Bush administration is "hiring" DPW to manage the ports."

The marxists and islamofascists truly are birds of a feather. Relentless lies bind them. The DWP deal includes a number of ports in Australia. Our leaning-so-far-to-the-left-we're-about-to-fall-over public service broadcaster SBS, last night announced that 'an Arabian company already OWNS the port in South Australia'

The misinformation is delibertate and union driven, IMO. The Left are trying to undermine the government by insinuating that Howard is selling our infrastructure to oil sheiks.

What was it that Islamists were rioting over in France? For the life of me, I can't remember.

I do remember the LSM not mentioning the violence for about four days.

They said that the French cops had "chased a couple of kids to death." The yoots had taken off running from the cops, tried to hide in an electrical substation, IIRC, and got fried for their troubles.

"Send this article to a prosecutor in Detroit or New Jersey and they will arrest you for dissemination of hate literature."

Seems like they understand only too well the volatile situation they have on their hands and are trying to suppress information for fear of an outbreak of quite natural anger and retaliation. Keep the victims dumbed down, pretend it's not happening. In Sweden, the girls have been told to accommodate the beliefs of the immigrants, don't go out unaccompanied, dress modestly etc., typical blame the victim stance the Left is so good at.

The beast that is islam will gobble up the socialists - who are sacrificing their young women as a form of appeasement.

"...The police often refuse to investigate because in Australia for instance, the police themselves are threatened with the rape of females in their own family..."

I believe that statement may have it's origin in the following paragraphs of 'The Rise of Middle Eastern Crime In Australia' by Tim Priest, a retired Sydney Detective.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1538780/posts?page=16#16

"AN EXAMPLE of the confrontations police nearly always experienced in Muslim-dominated areas when confronting even the most minor of crimes is an incident that occurred in 2001 in Auburn. Two uniformed officers stopped a motor vehicle containing three well known male offenders of Middle Eastern origin, on credible information via the police radio that indicated that the occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a series of break-and-enters. What occurred during the next few hours can only be described as frightening.

When searching the vehicle and finding stolen property from the break-and-enter, the police were physically threatened by the three occupants of the car, including references to tracking down where the officers lived, killing them and “fucking your girlfriends”. The two officers were intimidated to the point of retreating to their police car and calling for urgent assistance. When police back-up arrived, the three occupants called their associates via their mobile phones, which incidentally is the Middle Eastern radio network used to communicate amongst gangs. Within minutes as many as twenty associates arrived as well as another forty or so from the street where they had been stopped. As further police cars arrived, the Middle Eastern males became even more aggressive, throwing punches at police, pushing police over onto the ground, threatening them with violence and damaging police vehicles.

When the duty officer arrived, he immediately ordered all police back into their vehicles and they retreated from the scene. The stolen property was not recovered. No offender was arrested for assaulting police or damaging police vehicles.

But the humiliation did not end there. The group of Middle Eastern males then drove to the police station, where they intimidated the station staff, damaged property and virtually held a suburban police station hostage. The police were powerless. The duty officer ordered police not to confront the offenders but to call for back-up from nearby stations. Eventually the offenders left of their own volition. No action was taken against them.

In the minds of the local population, the police were cowards and the message was, Lebs rule the streets. For a number of days, nothing was done to rectify this total breakdown of law and order. To the senior police in the area, it was more important to give the impression that local ethnic relations were never better. It was also important to Peter Ryan that no bad news stories appeared that may have given the impression that crime in any area was out of control. Had these hoodlums been arrested they would have filed IA complaints immediately via their Legal Aid lawyers and community leaders. To senior police, this was a cause for concern at the next Op Crime Review.

So the incident was covered up until a few local veteran detectives found out about it and decided to act. They went quietly to the addresses of the three main offenders early one morning and took them away with a minimum of fuss and charged them. Some order was restored, but not nearly enough..."

Gang rapists told age, culture no defence By Natasha Wallace March 2, 2004

Three Pakistani gang rapists who are facing life in jail yesterday begged a judge to be pardoned, citing cultural differences that led to the brutal attack, immaturity on their part and hardship within their families if they were imprisoned.

But Supreme Court Justice Brian Sully said "culture or no culture", a strong message needed to be sent to other young men that such horrific sex crimes against women will not be tolerated in modern society.

Andrew Haesler, for one of the defendants, known as MMK, 17, said his client was immature and had lived in Australia for two years without the "restrictive boundaries" in his home country.

But Justice Sully said the crime could not be passed off as a "youthful indiscretion that has somehow gone wrong".

"Sixteen or not, what he did is absolutely repellent behaviour, and it's adult-type behaviour," he said. "It has to be established once and for all that culture or no culture, wherever he came from, however old you are, this cannot be tolerated in modern society."

Five males, four of whom are brothers, were found guilty last year of nine counts of aggravated sexual assault in company - which carries a maximum life sentence - on two girls, aged 16 and 17, at the brothers' Ashfield family home on July 28, 2002.

The girls were repeatedly raped, threatened with knives and bullets and one was told the other had been killed because she had resisted her attackers. None of the men can be named because the younger brothers, MMK and MRK, 18, were minors at the time. Another man, known as RS, is 25.

Two of the men, known as MSK, 25, and MAK, 23, sobbed openly in court, maintaining their innocence and begging for "another chance".

The brothers are representing themselves because they believe an anti-Muslim conspiracy has prevented a fair hearing. Their father, a practising doctor, told the court they should be pardoned because they "did not know the culture of this country".

Justice Sully said the victims' impact statements had greatly affected him: "I have not heard . . . anything like it . . . something proper needs to be done to get the message out to the adolescents and teenagers."

The men are the first to be convicted of the new offence of aggravated sexual assault in company, which carries a maximum life penalty.

They will be sentenced on March 12.
