SEATTLE -- Former President Jimmy Carter criticized the war in Iraq on Wednesday, urging a troop drawdown as the United States enters its fourth year of conflict in Iraq.
"It was a completely unnecessary war. It was an unjust war," said Carter, the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner. "It was initiated on the basis of false pretenses. All of those are true, but we can't just pre-emptively withdraw."

No, they were true, but on false premises.

We had to put up with this guy for 4 years, why do we have to continue to suffer?
To: MassRepublicanFlyersFan
If it were up to me, I wouldn't put Carter in Breaking News if he were taken hostage in Iran.
Well ok maybe then. But nothing less!

After the way he handled the Iran hostage fiasco he should stick to his wine making. He sounds like he's been drinking too much of it.

Carter is probably right. The war might not have been necessary if he had stood up to radical islamists.

For once, Jimmy may be right. The troops should be withdrawn from Iraq, and redeployed in Iran.

My dear friends, what we are witnessing with former, and failed President Carter is nothing short of jealous spite.
Mister Carter's presidency left the economy in a burning wreck, the military grievously weakened, , and the country in general malaise that only a Ronald Reagan could heal. Mister Carter was a sniveling bystander during a successful hostage siege of U.S. diplomats in Iran.
Furthermore, he gave away a perfectly good canal.
Carter was upstaged by Reagan and both Bushes, and even in a P. R. sense by impeached and disbarred former President Clinton.
As little people do, he looks for ways to elevate his own teensy stature by attacking his successful successors.
What a legacy. A weakling failure as a president, and an embittered spoiler as an ex-president.
I'd have pity for the old gent, except that he's willing to potty on our country's defense mission in order to sound profound. And, he will never, ever understand how that lowers his stature even farther. Ugh.
