Atlanta Woman To Be Honored By Bush

While he is in Atlanta on Thursday, President Bush will present an award to a local woman. He's honoring her for her volunteer work.

The Commander-in-Chief is presenting Peace Corps volunteer Amber Davis-Collins with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. She lives in Atlanta, but was singled out for her work abroad as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras.

She served two years, working with women’s groups to improve nutrition and reduce infant mortality rates.

Her biggest challenge now, however, is thinking of what to say when she meets the President.

Davis-Collins says she doesn’t know who nominated her for the award, but she says she hopes they will come forward so she can thank them.

She says the White House told her that she will be the first person to greet President Bush when Air Force One arrives in Atlanta on Thursday.

Does anybody have any statistics on how much the nutrition rate and the infant mortality rate improved in Honduras?

Don't know, but I do know that San Pedro Sula had the highest AIDS rate in Central America a few years back.

I had a friend who was in the Peace Corps, and most of the people he met were total lib to the bone.

Some were very helpful, but a lot of them were just putting off getting a real job.

I bet this young lady is special though, and congrats to her.

In my travels I met about 10 women in the piece corp, they were all wild free love hippies.
The years were 1970 through 1995.

Different years, but yes. That's been my experience. Peace Corps girls love to love.

A lot.
