Whats with the Dubai ports deal bill? (Vanity)

Posted on 03/08/2006 5:25:00 PM PST by wingsof liberty

Whats with the timing on this new bill? I thought Dubai Ports World agreed to an open, visible 45 day investigation on wether they should be in charge of some operations at U.S. ports. Thats what politicians agreed to, and now theyre preparing to introduce a bill that would kill the deal, with billions in aid for Iraq, the Gluf Coast, Afghanistan, etc. also attached to it. This way Bush cant veto it without becoming the bad guy. So why are these politicians unwilling to even wait for the investigation to conclude before they pull this? Its as if I went to a bank to apply for a home loan, I am asked to fill out an application and while I am still filling it out, the loan officer tells me I have been turned down. Hows that for logic?

Actually, Gore didn't run as Clinton, Jr. in any respect. Clinton himself is reputed to have been angry that Gore didn't run on Clinton's record much.

If he did would that have made the difference?

Only 500 or so voters in Florida know for sure.

Clinton isn't my hero, I never voted for him, and I was a vocal critic of him

Well gee you are sticking up for him and have admiration for him due to "polls".

Because 70% of Americans are against

And the same amount were against the impeachment of clinton.

Actually that was never true either. In one major poll, only about 17% actually opposed it. The media just lumped all of those that thought he deserved it, but didn't actually support the impeachment, in with those that opposed it. The breakdown was around 20% opposed it, 30% supported it, and the remaining 50% were ambivalent. Over time, they convinced even the Senators that most opposed the hearings, and that the Rebublicans had gone against the will of the people - which said perception, people resented.

Well according to your own reliance on polls, using your logic clinton's VP should have had a cakewalk.

Fair enough, except I think that Dubya has had a steady stream of head-scratching screwups since last summer. There is no excuse for most of them. Him being caught bewildered and flatfooted on the port deal is consistent with that record, not inconsistent with it.

The admin has utterly lost control of the narrative. I am unsure how they can get it back.

Where do I show my admiration for Clinton due to polls?

I said he remains a popular president. I didn't say I thought he was a good president.

So where did I profess admiration for Clinton?

What "bewilderment". This port deal was made up of hysteria(i.e they are taking over the ports, which is a lie) or do you beleive that the DPWorld is taking over the ports.

If you do, I can show boatloads of information they are not.

JMO, seems to me you have admiration for the lying MSM.

Actually you are wrong, his personal ratings are also in the toilet.

I have got plenty of facts against UAE. They have, or at least, had terrorists in their nation. Also, there has been funding of terrorists in their nation. I have heard no facts against the company that wants to buy this management. None.

Here is a case very similar to the one you have just presented:

Bill Gates is found to be a terrorist, but Microsoft (still under Gates control) is given exclusive management of all US Federal computer systems.
Bill Gates=UAE
Microsoft="the company that wants to buy this management"

I have written several times that the reality of the case isn't as important as the perception. If Dubya can't control the perception, he is a weak leader.

He can't control the perception.

Your words not mine. I guess "truth" isn't important to you, kinda of like josef goebbels, IMO.

Hmm, who to beleive a 6 year old article, or a Gen.(Tommy Franks) who has worked with the UAE after 9/11. I'll beleive Gen. Tommy Franks who calls the UAE a good ally.
You call it a 6 year old "article" (the ny post article). I call it a 4 year old warning released by the US Military.

Answer these, please:

Do you think that there is a strong public perception is that the ports deal is a bad idea?

Do you think the president convinced the American people that the ports deal is a good idea?

Two easy questions.

I'm not sure he was caught 'flatfooted'. Congress are the ones who made a mess of this, and the libs by getting on the anti bush bandwagon to prop it up. No one said jack about China and LA. Again, it's the media making a mountian out of a molehole. You can say, it's the arabs, etc, but, this has been sop all along. If this stink was raised during I42's reign, and China/LA, this would have never been a 'done' deal.

"So it's ok if the Bush Administration conducts this deal in secret with no transparrancy or overview by congress. All of it in the dark, but it's not ok for Congress to perform it's oversite of this secret deal?"

Ask congress. They are the ones that wrote the laws that allowed for secret meetings, for lower level people to make the decision and for Congress to not have oversite.

"He can't control the perception."

He could if he had a 'media' team.

Yes due to a lying media, that fanned hysteria instaed of truth.

Do you think the president convinced the American people that the ports deal is a good idea?

How can he when there is a massive media that admires josef goebbels logic, and whom you seem to admire(the media). The President is a human being and a question for you, do you think there is media bias against this President?
