I don't understand .. FNC is saying just now on Brit's show that the WH is making deals with both the senate and the house re NSA spying. They're going to increase the # of members in each house who will get EVERY detail of our NSA program .. with increased oversight.
I think I'm witnessing the beginnings of the downfall of this country.

And all the hysterics here will jump on that bandwagon. Exactly. And StormFront will lead the parade with banners proclaiming "No Foreign Investors in the USA!"

House panel votes to block ports deal
Will there be a Presidential veto? Override? An actual bill approved by the House and Senate will need to reach the President's desk before either of those possibilities come into play.

Mike; there is a danger that Qatar will do the same as in consolidation with their brethren in UAE.

I was just listening to the same report, thinking the same thing.
But look around, lots of people HERE happy about it. Most of them are the ones who are against the Patriot Act.

The very thought of more congress members getting info just frosts me. The likes of some cannot be trusted.

I don't think so.
I think Qatar will stay with the US and the Kuwaitis.

For sure Petronski.
I guess a lot of people on this site do not realize that UAE is just not another third world sh!t hole. These guys are the real thing with 5 star resorts, lots of oil money and the where with all to buy pretty much whatever, whenever they want. Short and sweet they are Mideast capitalists!!
Besides that there is not much of a biding war to even get the port contracts for the right to deal with a bunch of union a..holes that actually run the ports.

Didn't someone mention that companies from other Arab countries also handle port operations in several major cities, too? Including, if I'm remembering correctly, one from Saudi Arabia? (I'm sure someone will promptly correct me if I'm wrong...)

Iran is not going to invade the UAE. AL Qaeda can do terrorism but it is not our presence in UAE that is preventing this from happening. Again we shall see.

Republicans BLOCK Bill Clinton's deal PING!!!!
Bill Clinton helped Dubai on ports deal
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1588266/posts Financial Times (FT.com) ^ | March 1 2006 23:50 | Stephanie Kirchgaessner
Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago
on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World.
It came even as his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, was leading efforts to derail the deal.

I don't think it's necessarily over-reacting. Time will tell, but I think this bill is a horrible mistake, and one we'll pay dearly for in terms of allies, intel, and bases we might need if it becomes necessary to put "war" back on the table with Iran.

Have a little faith in the Prez...He's a good man...Just surrounded by self-absorbing/anointed reps/sents...At this point of the game, they are throwing out all the stops in order for re-lection efforts...This does put to rest the idea that the majority of repubs back the Prez at any cost..The bottom line is the Prez looks out for the folks and clearly sees the big picture whereas the rest look out for themselves only....
To: MizSterious
I'm starting to think most of our government would sell their own grandmothers if they thought it would keep them in power just one more year. Bingo--the bells are ringing!! Sad but true. The politically expedient are running our country, patriotism is way down the line.

An American partner company will be appointed and the deal will proceed. It's been the plan all along and will funnel $$ to politicians and unions That wouldn't surprise me

----it's all you have.---- Well, apparently what I have is a 62-2 vote from the Appropriations Committee to kill the Dubai deal....
----Besides we still have Qatar.----
Really! If we ever have any complaints about Qatar, will you urge that country to kick us out too? :)

No one said anything about blackmail. We're merely looking at the damage this despicable bill is likely to cause. Losing bases, allies, and intel are some of the likely outcomes, and it doesn't take someone from the Psychic Network to figure that out.
