I do not believe, IMHO, no matter the outcome of this fiasco, that the US will be out of Dubai .. we're too strategically intertwined in a critical symbiotic partnership in a most volatile region.

Actually, about 40% of union members are Republicans.

And 100% of their leadership(crooks who control the purse strings) are socialist democrats.

You're probably right, and I hope so. Dubya and Dubai will likely put their heads together and mutually agree on a way for the latter to save face.

Captainsquarter blog thinks the American company middle-man deal won't happen.

A Spoonful Of Panic Helps The Majority Go Down

As usual, the Republicans have squandered a good opportunity.

"I don't see them fighting for me. I've seen Bush fighting for me. I remember."

Yes, Bush has been fighting for you by allowing our southern borders to be overrun by illegal immigrants. He's been fighting for you by sponsoring a medical drug plan for seniors that is the biggest new entitlement that has been voted into law in years (and yours and my tax dollars pay for it). He's been fighting for you by pouring money down a rathole w/his education deal he did early on w/Teddy Kennedy. He fought for you when he nominated Harriet Meyers, and only backed down when the conservatives started howling. He fought for you by mouthing his pro-life credentials but doing little during his tenure otherwise to advance the cause.

Bush fought for you by presiding over a gigantic budget deficit, that is huge even if you minus out the money for the war effort. He fought for you by never using his veto pen even when it would have been highly advantageous to do so (such as on campaign finance reform), and then threatens to finally use it over turning over our ports to an Arab country, Dubai. That's guaranteed to win you votes. He and Congress have been spending money like drunken sailors. Bush has his virtues, but he also has his vices, and some of them (like his attitude toward illegal immigration) are glaring.

"It is over "

Oh nonsense the Senate won't agree since it isn't germane. This is a dog and pony show.

(Maybe McCain will filibuster it to get some more media face time LOL!)

What bargaining chips do they hold?

The only reason that these pathetic, artificial little sheikdoms, emirates and monarchies even exist is because of the military umbrellas provided by the United States Armed Forces.

Do you actually think they're going to ask us to leave?

Or if they did, that they could actually enforce that request?

That was my only hope; if that middle man deal doesn't happen, we're in deep do doo.

Actions have consequences

AND when the GOP's Actions are wrong for America, then they get slapped down. It doesn't matter if the Democrats support it or not.

What matters is America not politics.

Time for President Bush to do another Harriet - do a 180 and turn a dumb move into a smart one.

And John Kerry has been suprisingly silent, although he did say he wanted more review before making a decision.

Oh, that's understandable. Flippo needs to hear both sides so he can be on both sides. Whereas Gore, for all his great mystical powers, hasn't accomplished bilocation yet. I think he's for the UAE deal but he doesn't want to come out of the stall and admit he agrees with the President.

With the 06 elections right around the corner, don't be surprised to see Democrats regaining power. Our House Republicans just gave America a wide open view of a splintered party that cannot even trust the President or anyone else.

From the article, "One of the most vulnerable situations facing America is our ports of entry," said Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla., chairman of the House defense appropriations subcommittee. "Whoever’s responsible for those ports of entry should be American."

Well, Representative Young, care to let us in on which American company has been shut out and not allowed into the ports?

At a time when we need all the Arab help we can muster to service our Naval fleet and possibly use their airfield facilities, we slap them in the face saying they are a Security Risk and not welcome here.

May as well throw in the towel now and allow Al Qaeda to rule the day.

Just like during Viet Nam, we have allowed cheap politicians to use a no nothing deal that wouldn't have harmed us a bit to alienate those we wish to help us out.

Good going, RINOs.

Let's hope they don't kick our military assets out of the region. And raise gas prices. This is a debacle.

"Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation, the stevedore at the center of a controversy over port security, launched an offensive Wednesday to extinguish concerns about its sale to Dubai Ports World.

Several P&O executives met outside the Seagirt Marine Terminal with members of the local media to address weeks of what they characterized as political and media allegations implying that DP World, a government-owned company based in the United Arab Emirates, has terrorist ties.

"Gross media distortions took place," P&O Executive Vice President Robert Scavone said. "People were saying the ports are being sold to terrorists -- silly comments like that, that we were not ready to combat."

Looks like klinton did his part

Bill Clinton helped Dubai on ports deal

Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago
on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World.
It came even as his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, was leading efforts to derail the deal.
