Oh, and btw ... can't resist this ... some Germans were posting on here a month or so ago that the U.S. needs Germany more than Germany needs us. So, I guess THEY'RE glad to see our bases closing down there. Haha.

This vote is a slap in the face to an ally. Shame on the House.

Yep, best friends money can buy, America seems to have hundreds of them.....

One other thing I wish I didn't even have to think -- much less say.

So the best that can be said about the deal is that it's just business -- They offered the best price for a product that was for sale.

In the back of my head there is this other thing rattling around -- How long will it be before we hear that someone in the adminstration made money on the deal? Just business?

Well that's not why I voted for these people.

----I think that best that might be said about this deal is that "it's just the free market at work."----

With a government-run company, at that.

A government-run company from a monarchy. :-)

Pretty dumb move if you ask me - Gore will soon be out there again squawking about American bigotry.

So they're blackmailing us?

No, it's pretty much the other way around. Now, Dubai is free to tell us they will no longer receive US Navy ships in their ports because we're too much of a security risk for them. Furthermore, since they already control the ports were most of the containers are loaded TO THE UNITED STATES, they may decide it's too dangerous to enter an American port, given the irrational kneejerk stupidity coming from those opposed to them unloading cargo that they've already loaded.

The appropriations committee has just told the UAE to get to the back of the 7-11 and get busy drawing slurpees because they can't be trusted to do anything else. It is nothing more than pandering to an ill-informed consituency of idiots.

A "government" consisting of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He is the Emir of Dubai and also Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE.

Who's going to be left to vote for republicans?

The same people who put them in. Us right wing democrats. We will never vote for the Socialists who took over the Democrat party.

The socialist agenda will kill this country. There is always some hope with the gutless, inept Republicans that hey might do the right thing. There is no hope that the socialists(Dems)will do the right thing for this country. - tom

Oh please. You're obviously out of the loop. It's Clinton who is making money from the UAE, not anyone in the administration.

HI Peach, at least part of the problem remains the MSM spinning out of control. As we get stronger and stronger hopefully the New Media can counter their constant left wing bias.

Can someone please tell me what UAE is actually buying...what are they paying 6+ billion for? Nothing? Funny, I still dont' know what "port operations" are. The way some argue, UAE is paying for the ports to have control of nothing. However, UAE paying billions to "just watch" or "sit on the sidelines" scares me.

LOL. They are buying whatever interest P&O already had in certain US operaions (some of the ports that P&O "ran," it "ran" through US Companies -- a link later to my research re: the Port of Miami).

The sort of interest they have is a right to be present on usually city, county or state-owned land, for the purpose of loading and unloading tansproation vessels - ships, trains and trucks. They also have rights to warehouse. In some cases, the companies own or lease hardware such as cranes. They manage the workforce that moves the freight from one part of the operation (ship) to another (truck), promising to keep the products moving on their scheduled routs, and passing through the obligatory checkpoints such as customs.

For this service, they are paid a fee. Out of the fee, they pay the wages, leases, equipment maintenance, etc. What's left over is profit. The person buying the goods "pays the freight," just like you pay for airport terminal services when you buy a seat on a flight.

Links below are in revers cronological order (obviously, I see on inspection).

The Dubai Port deal is just so typical these days... the media misrepresents and exagerates it, the democrats take politcal advantage of it, the republicans run like wussies from it, and Bush is the only 'idiot' who actually GETS IT.

I'm glad so many representatives are so eager to tell all Arabs it is WORTHELESS to even bother trying to be our ally... in then end those 'racist' Americans only see your turbin.

The new Republican mantra: "The other guys are worse".

I'm sorry, I'm willing to fire the current inept leadership for someone new. If they are as bad or worse, then I will work to fire them too. Soon, another Reaganesque figure will appear who is actually deserving of the job and will win based on ideas and results! I've had it with the other guy is worse argument (as it is hard to believe).
