There's a guy I know here at work, he's from the Philippines, he has most enormous fingers I've ever seen. They kind of remind me of the frog below, large long fingers ending with bulbous tips...they remind me of suction cups

Beside being enormous, they are very powerful....he uses them to twist paper clip wires into small sculptures....Outside of those tremendous fingers he appears to be pretty normal....

The wide angle shot would cause serious bending of all straight lines not passing through the center of the picture [say, the roof lines on the background architecture] and they are rather straight. I'd think Photoshopping.

Only cheap/crappy wide angle primes do that. Cheap zooms do that even more. Its called 'pincushion' in wide angles, and 'barrel' in telephoto. Expensive single focal length lenses are usually rectilinear ( negligible barrel/pincushion) and the zooms contain the distortion very well.

Journalists usually have rectilinear zooms on their DSLRs, the 17-35/2.8 types. So even if it was shot on the wide end ( 17 to 19mm) you will see very very little distortion. Don't mean to brag, but my Nikkor 17-35/2.8 is about as perfect a zoom lens can be.
