ACLU Expresses Disappointment Over Supreme Court Ruling in Military Recruitment Case

WASHINGTON -- The American Civil Liberties Union today expressed disappointment over a Supreme Court ruling that upholds a federal law requiring colleges to allow military recruiters on campus or else lose out on federal funding. The ACLU filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the case, Rumsfeld v. FAIR, arguing that it is unconstitutional for Congress to force law schools that object to discrimination against gay people to give the military access to their recruitment programs.

The following quote can be attributed to ACLU Legal Director Steven R. Shapiro.

“We disagree with the Court’s decision today in Rumsfeld v. FAIR. Universities should not be punished by the loss of their federal funding merely because they apply the same non-discrimination policies to the military that they apply to every other employer that seeks to recruit on campus.”

There seems to be quite a bit of disappointment going on at the ACLU lately. They are upset that Federally funded colleges have to accept Military recruiters on their campus. They are saddened that South Dakota is taking a stand to protect unborn children. They are upset that the Patriot Act was renewed. And we are sure they will soon have a press release expressing their concerns that the Intelligence Commitee will not be investigating the Bush Administration over the NSA program. Its been a bad couple of days for the ACLU folks, and we couldn't be happier.

Heaven forbid military recruiters be allowed to exercise their freedom of speech on college campuses...

The ACLU may want to devote more time to preparing statements of disappointment. I think they are going to need them.

They can still kick the recruiters off campus. The institutions do NOT have to take Uncle Sam's money. But they're going to, aren't they? So much for principle.

Let's see...it's good for "diversity" to have Taliban on university campuses but not US military recruiters. A little hypocritical there ACLU. Don't worry, we've come to expect that.

They're only disappointed because the highest court in the land laid the smack-down (aka the truth, justice, and the American way).

No where to run, no where to hide ACLU... now don't go away mad just go away... AGAIN.

Yes, now let us hope their degree of despondency is sufficient to turn them to thoughts, if not deeds, of self-destruction.

Oh, yes.

Of course is the same ACLU that has been hounding the government to punish the Boy Scouts for having a stance on gays of which it disapproves. Go figure.

The ACLU seems to be on the losing end of things quite a lot lately. There is a simple reason for that: Their positions are contrary to the Constitution.

Too bad for the ACLU ... they support NAMBLA, an organization of gay pedophiles that want to eliminate the age of consent so perverts can legally butt f**k young boys.

I was at two of the rallies in DC last month at the Danish embassy to support free-speech, and nowhere was the ACLU to be seen. What a bunch of hypocrites!
