SAVANNAH, Mo. -- A children's book about two male penguins who raise a baby penguin has been moved to the nonfiction section of two public library branches after parents complained it had homosexual undertones.
The illustrated book, And Tango Makes Three, is based on a true story of two male penguins, named Roy and Silo, who adopted an abandoned egg at New York City's Central Park Zoo in the late 1990s.
The book, by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson, was moved from the children's section at two Rolling Hills' Consolidated Library's branches in Savannah and St. Joseph in northwest Missouri.
Two parents had expressed concerns about the book last month.
Barbara Read, the Rolling Hills' director, said experts report that adoptions aren't unusual in the penguin world. However, moving the book to the nonfiction section would decrease the chance that it would "blindside" readers, she said.
Brokeback iceberg?
I hope it was the children's non-fiction section, at least. It's a true story.

How dare they deny the liberal interpretation of animal behavior as a model for society.
/sarcasm off
Sure it isn`t Roy And Seigfried?
And FYI...one of those penguins blew off his mate and has now bonded with a female...
"And FYI...one of those penguins blew off his mate and has now bonded with a female..."
Beat me to it. Wonder if that's in the book?
LOL
In tuxedos? LOL
We won't be getting #2 son this book.
"And FYI...one of those penguins blew off his mate..."
EXTREMELY poor choice of words!! :)
It is the role of the father penguin to take turns with the mother penguin keeping the egg warm, until it hatches.
The "gay" label on the two male penguins is a human label; and nothing more.
The two male penguins simply did what male penguins do - take turns keeping the egg warm. In the abscence of a mother for the egg, and for whatever reason they both adopted the egg ("captive" life with limited reproductive possibilities, versus life in the wild) the two males apparently didn't care who they were sharing the hatching duties with. In every other way, what they did was not really so "unnatural", under the circumstances.
"They knew these penguins were gay how? Did these two male penguins have sex? Sounds like a bunch of bullhockey to me just to further a whacked out agenda."
From the article, it doesn't appear that the authors of the book did anything other than tell a true story. The 'sexual undertones' thing appears to be coming from parents of readers, not the authors.
Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson are "life partners". No trying to indoctrinate children going on here. Nope none at all.
Well that doesn't seem to make it into the media....
LOL...oh man...it must be getting late in the day! Please...scrape that image out of your brain and accept my apologies!!!
That is what I was thinking. If the book doesn't talk about them mating or whatever then this could almost truly be a case of homophobia.
Penguin Car Owner: "No, that's just ice cream."
The two penguins built a nest together and, when given an egg to hatch, chose to do so together.
Also, their nest was far better decorated than the other nests...down blankets, brigt colors, coordinating pillows....
