Maine Governor: Incumbent Baldacci (D) 40% at Best
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 3/6/06

Posted on 03/06/2006 3:21:20 PM PST by LdSentinal

March 6, 2006--Democratic Governor John Baldacci continues to tread water when voters compare him to possible Republican opponents. But no Republican candidate is a political powerhouse either in this Democrat-leaning state.

Former Congressman Dave Emery leads the governor 39% to 37%. In the January Rasmussen Reports Election Poll in Maine, Emery led 42% to 39%.

Governor Baldacci now attracts greatest support when pitted against State Senator Chandler Woodcock. He leads Woodcock 40% to 35%, a ten-point surge for the governor since our last poll.

But State Senator Peter Mills has also surged, so that he is now neck-and-neck with the incumbent, 39% to 38%. In January, Baldacci led Mills 37% to 31%.

Governor Baldacci is viewed favorably by 39%, unfavorably by 50%. Forty-four percent (44%) approve of the job he's doing, 56% disapprove.

At most a third of voters view each Republican candidate favorably, and no more than a quarter view any of them unfavorably. Half or so are not yet sure what they think of the Republicans. By contrast, only ten percent are "not sure" what they think of Baldacci personally and only one percent are "not sure" about the job he's doing.

U.S. Senator Olympia Snow, a Republican, seems set to glide to reelection, with 63% saying they would vote for her in an election held today, versus 21% who prefer an unnamed Democrat.

David Emery?? The guy who blew a huge lead and lost to George Mitchell in 1982? I didn't know he was still around.

I swore I would leave Maine if Momma's Boy became governor...my wife and I left for greener pastures six months after he took office. I would love to return to be closer to family and friends, but I fear the damage he has done will take decades to repair. Funny thing - I caught a show on public broadcasting a few nights ago discussing the miserable failure that is Dirigo Health. I move 2000 miles away and I still can't get away from his "legacy"!

>> I still can't get away from his "legacy"!

But at least my tax dollars aren't funding it.

Dirigo health is going to be the BIG blackhole of tax dollars. It is a failure if you paid any attention to what it was "sold" as being for.

Maine has to raise taxes to pay for all the "savings" of its health-care program.

Maine leads in taxes with the highest in the nation

"I lead" health... but it doesn't say where. Obviously into the Baldacci Black Hole.

This number is very encouraging. Are people waking up in this state?  One can only hope.

I've thought for a while that the state motto should be changed to "Hirigo" and in "Here I Go across the border into New Hampshire and beyond!"

Is that "brooklin" as in the Hancock County town?

I grew up in Blue Hill and spent my 20's in Bangor...moved away a few years ago.
