Santorum expected to cut Casey's big edge By David M. Brown TRIBUNE-REVIEW Monday, March 6, 2006

Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum and state Treasurer Bob Casey Jr., his likely Democratic opponent, are buckled in for what's billed to be one the hottest -- and nastiest -- political races in the nation this year.

As a lead-up, the rivals have been sniping at each other for months through Internet-generated news releases from their campaigns. Now the official starting flag is about to drop.

I think most everyone agrees with you, but people are still poed.

Also, if Santorum wins, it will be a miracle.

I agree. I cannot imagine why conservatives would be peeved at Santorum. He is one of the most conservative GOP Senators in the Senate. I guess it's over his campaigning for Specter. But guess what, Specter was going to win regardless of Santorum's support so get over it. Now Specter will re-pay the favor by helping Santorum get moderate and independent votes in November he'll need to win.

The fact is, it would be incredibly bad form for Santorum to have campaigned against Specter and for a primary opponent. That just isn't done and would have totally divided the Pennsylvania GOP in a presidential election year. That never was going to happen.

Santorum is a good man and a consistent conservative. It just wasn't possible to fight Spector and that's that. He was going to win anyway....dang it!

So I'll back Santorum for Senate. And Lynn Swann for governor. And lets get PA back to Red State Status.

Actually, Pat Toomey had a close loss even after Santorum campaigned for Specter. Without Santorum, Toomey may well have won the primary.

The fact is, it would be incredibly bad form for Santorum to have campaigned against Specter and for a primary opponent.

True. But it would not have been bad form for Santorum to write a simple endorsement without any serious support.

IMHO: A democrat is better than a RINO because you don't have people hoping the RINO will re-pay a favor. Especially when the RINO is old, probably won't run again, and therefore has no reason to be re-paying favors.

So, yes, I'll vote for Santorum. But I throw away his letters unopened. If he's asking for campaign money, he ain't gettin' any.

Shalom.

Not likely. Spectre won the primary 51-49% over Toomey.

Having said that, I'm definitely pulling for Santorum. I don't think he needs a miracle, but he's definitely got his work cut out for him.

Santorum gave Hillary a spanking back about 2 years ago in the Senate over the debate of partial birth abortion...Man, he really stood up to her and exposed her double speak lies. He needs support from republicans and hopefully with Lynn Swann running for Governor, PA will draw out the Repubs.

But ... but ... Arlen Specter was going to deliver PA for Bush, wasn't he?

Shalom.

Good job! I am so sick of the pouters who vow to stay home on election day. That is cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. What good will it do anyone to put the evil Pelosi and Reid in charge of the House and Senate? Nothing will get done then like extending tax cuts and continuing to confirm conservative judges. And the pouters will be the first to scream when Pelosi and Reid are blocking everything conservative from getting done. I just don't understand this mentality. I don't like some of what the Republicans are and are not getting done, but I know I'll get more of what I want from the Republicans and NOTHING I want and a lot of what I don't out of the Democrats. I refuse to be a pouter who hands power over to people I honestly believe to be satanic.

Not likely. Spectre won the primary 51-49% over Toomey.

I really don't think Santorum's support changed anything in that regard.

Santorum is the #1 target of the hard left.

That should be all you need to know. If the hard left hates him, he can be nothing but a friend to conservatives.

Go git 'em, Rick!

I think most everyone agrees with you, but people are still poed.

The "people" who are po-ed are perpetually po-ed about something.

Pat Toomey's no longer po-ed--if he ever was. He's endorsed Santorum in '06.

He probably did, in reality. Only the 120,000 mystery voters in Philadelphia know for sure.

The race will tighten up and Rick will ultimately win,IMO.He has always had tough, hard fought campaigns and usually has started out behind in the polls.

His biggest advantage is Casey himself.Casey has less personality than Al Gore, and that's quite a feat.He is as dull as a stump. The only way Casey wins is by staying invisible, like he's doing now.

Rick's a fighter, he'll force Casey out.Once that happens, Casey's numbers will start dropping.

Of course it would be a lot easier if we could just give Philadelphia to New Jersey. But this time around,Rendell and Casey might have a tougher time suppressing the military vote and bringing out the dead in Philly.

This race seems to make more news in DC than in PA for now. Living in PA I rarely hear much about the race yet, so ignore any polls. This fight hasn't even started where it counts.

It didn't make sense that Santorum could be so far behind anyway. If Santorum wants to win he will stay unflinchingly conservative. If he quivers, he loses. It's that simple. He had better get Bush in to campaign for him as well. The polls are BS and anyone with eyes and ears can see that.

Casey says he is "pro-life" but he is not his father. He is for embryonic stem cell research and that is NOT a pro-life position. Santorum has always been pro-life. I hope the people of PA get behind him and support him at the polls in November.
