HAS ANYBODY SAID IT YET? BOYCOTT THE OSCARS (Oscars Live Thread)

I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.
I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.
Pass it on...

What in the heck is the matter with Lauren Bacall?! She seemed out of it, was she drunk?!
To: Dashing Dasher
He was born Joaquin but wanted a more nature based name to be like his brother River and sister Rain in the movies. His full name is Joaquin Rafael Phoenix.

Who names their kids River and Jouquin???Hippies in a commune. I kid you not, when the kids were little they lived with their parents in a commune. They have a couple of brothers and sisters with equally weird names that I can't remember right now.
But, then I named one of my daughters, Misty and I don't even have the excuse of being a drugged out hippie. :)

Born in Puerto Rico to Children of God missionaries John Bottom Amram and Arlyn Dunitz Jochebed (a.k.a. Heart), Joaquin was the middle child in a brood of five. As a youngster he took his cues from older siblings River Phoenix and Rain Phoenix, changing his name to Leaf to match their earthier monikers. When the children were encouraged to develop their creative instincts, he followed their lead into acting. Younger sisters Liberty Phoenix and Summer Phoenix rounded out the talented troupe. The family moved often, traveling through Central and South America (and adopting the surname "Phoenix" to celebrate their new beginnings), but by the time Joaquin was 6 they had more or less settled in the Los Angeles area. Heart found work as a secretary at NBC, and John turned his talents to landscaping. They eventually found an agent who was willing to represent all five children, and the younger generation dove into TV work. Commercials for meat, milk, and junk food were off-limits (the kids were all raised as strict vegans), but they managed to find plenty of work pushing other, less sinister products. Joaquin's first real acting gig was a guest appearance on River's sitcom "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1982)
A LOT of name changing going on in that family apparently.

Leaf?? Please. He looks way too tough to be a "Leaf"
I wondered how he felt about losing his brother in the movie...cause he was with River when he died.

Are they honoring a director with these clips?

If each and every hollyweirdo would just sing, dance, act - whatever - and not tell me what I should think about global warming or the war on terror - I'd be a happy camper.

They're either honoring film noir or the long-gone era when Hollywood made movies people actually wanted to see.

In the worst year ever for the Oscars 33 million people watched.

Daily Show-style segments

My wife's watching it, and I heard part of Clooney's acceptance speech.
I liked how he congratulated Hollywood on giving a black woman, Hattie McDaniel, an Oscar in 1938.
He didn't mention that they didn't give another one to a black woman for something like sixty years, and then she was barely even half black.
So very enlightened, that Hollywood.
