Iran issues warning on uranium enrichment

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran will resume large-scale nuclear enrichment if the International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors refers the Islamic Republic to the U.N. Security Council, the country's chief nuclear negotiator said Sunday.

Ali Larijani also warned that Iran could use its oil production "as a weapon" if the nuclear imbroglio worsens.

The IAEA board of governors meets Monday, and it is expected to refer the matter to the Security Council.

"Referral to the Security Council will not have any benefit for us or anyone else," said Larijani.

"And this will actually cause a lot of problems for others. Referral to Security Council would definitely be a setback to the discussion and the talks. To have a nuclear program, this is our God-given right, and no country will give up such a right. We have left all the doors open for discussion."

"We will definitely resume our enrichment and if Iran is referred to the Security Council."

"Referral to the Security Council will not have any benefit for us or anyone else," said Larijani.

We all know this, but Iran seems to be the one that wants to continually pursue this. Be glad we have a major military presence in the area. There are only 3 ways this can filter out. One, Iran backs down (not likely). Two, military action by either the US or Israel. Or finally the Iranian people or it's military leadership have enough of this lunacy and take over.

"A “Bermuda Triangle” from Iraq to Lebanon to Palestine is being taken over by Iran’s allies through the ballot box. It could pull in the Moslem Brotherhood in Egypt, and when it does the same to the Shiites of the oil-rich Eastern province of Saudi Arabia, the encirclement of the Persian Gulf will be complete. Islamists will have achieved what the Soviets could not, namely complete control of the Persian Gulf oil and the jugular of Western economies. They would then have a latter day Caliphate to lead all the forces that are against the post Cold War vision of the free world.

All the Islamic Republic needs in order to achieve this goal is to be able to use low intensity violence to supplement its financial, intelligence and organizational support for its allies. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why Iran needs the bomb: to neutralize the conventional military superiority of the West, and continue to use terrorism and low intensity violence without the fear of escalation to high intensity conventional warfare. For the free world, these are unacceptable outcomes. And yet, there isn’t much time to find a solution. The resumption of enrichment by the Islamic Republic has drastically reduced the window of decision. The vast number of commentaries and reports on the subject seem to come down to this: comparing diplomatic options with punitive ones, including military strikes."

most of the Iraqi Shias aren't exactly friends of the Iranians.

It won't go that way if we stay strong and show them that WE are in the right, not the Iranians....

might happen, but we won't do it first.

I don't think that the Israelis would go nuke first either.

And their oil threat is only real to the Euros. We don't get oil from Iran...

So alls we have to do is nothing and Iran wont make enriched uranium?

Sounds like a newkular threat with a petroleum blackmail backup.

Flush the bombers and fire up the missiles!

I hope it doesn't have to come to that, but my realistic side doesn't see any other way unfortunately.

interesting...

I don't think Iran is fooling anyone, well at least anyone outside of maybe the French or Russians.

we know what's happening. I am certain of it.

Bush is not going to let this stand. He will expend every last drop of political capital and leave office with the needle on empty for all he cares.

The Democrats, up against an election, will have to rally around the Prez to reinforce their "strong on defense" charade.

Iran will not be cowed but somethings gotta give soon.

We gave them a deadline the other day....thirty days. And then we'll really get tough. Let's hope we make a few obvious military movements so they understand what 'tough' means.

Any one that thinks that Israel will disarm and "move"
is certifiably insane, we cannot allow them to have
weapons period.
