Anybody who took care of an aging parent - as I am now - should see the writing on the wall. My husband and I have made changes to our home to accomodate my mom, but we are looking at how it will benefit us later on when our turn comes. Like it or not, that's reality. The 'flower children' had best wake up and prepare for it.

Figures that the "I hope I die before I get old" (then didn't) Generation wouldn't realize the obvious.

OK, always good advice to prepare. Be that as it may some precautions are simply "safety first" scenarios. When I upgraded our bathroom, I put in a jacuzzi tub for my wife for therapy (ok, I use it as much as she does, it's the gift that keeps on giving. :D ) Still, for her safety, I built in two "beautiful" brass grab bars that matched the other fixtures. Heck, it looks like shower jewelry and really makes the bathroom look simply luxurious. At any rate, there's ways to incorporate safety with asthetics.

Wait until they all get old with their houses in hock and their 401 K's destined to pay off debt, and they have to go to the kids and explain to them that the definition of "compassion" is to save grandmas ass.
This bay boomer retirement deal might get ugly, and I for one am not looking forward to this.
The DNC however, is looking forward to it. As is the AARP.

I agree, I want a "Ranch" with no basement. But it's a hard sell.

Not only homes, but living in an area that is close to stores, post office etc., either walking or public transport, for when we can no longer drive our cars.
