Key Al Qaeda members among 61 detained

BAGHDAD , Iraq – Coalition Forces conducted multiple raids Feb. 27. northeast of Fallujah to capture Al-Qaeda in Iraq facilitators involved in the logistical support of suicide bombers, foreign fighters and funding terrorist activities.

Based on intelligence and reporting, numerous safe houses were targeted by Coalition Forces.

Troops detained a total of 61 individuals who will be questioned regarding their knowledge of, or involvement in, terrorist activities.

There were a large number of weapons and ammunition found during the raids, and the caches were destroyed in place.

I wonder how many second in commands' and number two men in Zarquawi's organization were rounded up in this one?

Look, I realize that it's Friday, that everybody's drinkin' and having a great time and all, but please do keep in mind that 1 or 2 U.S. soldiers are dying each day in Iraq so that these sorts of terrorists aren't able to destablizie the Middle East or attack the U.S.

I realize that it seems like we're always getting the bridesmaids and never the bride...

But I think it is fair to say that every one of these dudes we take off the street is a good thing. I *don't* believe the common line that there's some perpetual well of new recruits for AQ. I think when we take some off the street, there's fewer of them on the street.

We'll get Zarkawi. One of these days.

What's sad is that in today's political climate, there seems to be a need to let the entire world know who, when, and where the captures happened.

I agree with everyone that we need to get our troops home, but maybe if we fought this war like...oh, nevermind.
