The Multi-National Force (MNF) on Friday announced it is investigating reports on Abu Mosab Al-Zarqawi's arrest nearby Fallujah.

An MNF officer did not confirm or deny the arrest, noting that the US forces are still investigating the reports.

Meanwhile, an MNF major said the force, based upon intelligence reports, executed Monday a number of arrest operations 45 kilometers northeast of Fallujah to capture key Al-Qaeda officials, Al-Zarqawi's assistants, and others involved in providing logistic support for foreign fighters and suicide attackers in Fallujah and Ramadi.

The major added that 61 people were arrested in the operation, which was announced before, among them were major Al-Qaeda leaders in Iraq, while quantities of weapons and ammunitions were seized and destroyed in the operation.

Meanwhile, sources in the Iraqi Army said that Al-Zarqawi could be among those arrested in the operation on Monday.

They won't torture him; they'll treat his nicely.....as far as the news reports go.

I say, throw him in a decompression chamber and give him a case of the bends every four days.

Follow the timeline... something BIG is up (not surprising after the Mosque bombing)

Reuters was reporting this on the 27th

NAHRAWAN - Interior Ministry police commandos killed five suspected Sunni insurgents and captured 25 in an evening battle near Nakhrawan just southeast of Baghdad

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/KAM721025.htm

JihadUnhinged had a blurb about that being an AlQueda battle.

On the 23rd Gen Lynch Briefed a thumb drive had been captured.

On the 24th the Northern Baghdad emir was killed

On the 27th a cell in Southest Baghdad was killed/captured as well as well as these 61 terrorists being captured in AlAnbar

On the 2nd a safe house in Hubbaniya was raided.

We've heard this countless times. It always turns out that a "lieutenant" was captured instead.

Madden brought him down right before he reached the goal line. BOOM!..faster than tough actin' Tenactin.
I will never believe one of these reports ever again and will be shocked when/if we finally get him.
Our futility in capturing him, UBL, and Al-Zwahiri is a real sore spot for me.

And everytime he makes a public statement, there is some level of trail (back to him) that could get him caught.
Strategery, eh? Who would have thunk it? ;-)

This whole thing is a bit weird. Google key words from the KUNA story, and not a thing from this story shows up on Google. Not a word. This story is just kind of out there suspended in a news vacuum. Maybe it is in one of those nodes that connect the parallel universes we keep encountering. ;-)

I hesitate to draw any inferences or conclusions, but it is interesting. If Roggio had not picked it up somehow, I don't think any of us would have seen it so quickly. I suspect that jmc1969 who posted it on FR saw it on Roggio's site. I think he used to regularly comment over at Fourth Rail, but it has been a while since I've seen his screen name over there.

One question I have here is why does Google fail to return the KUNA story?

How did you happen to pick up this story? I saw it first over at Fourth Rail and I've googled it several times to see if anyone else besides Roggio and KUNA were covering it. I can't find a thing.

LOL - it's actually MNFI

Don't know why they left it off. Makes it more fun, though.

Just FWIW...there has been no scuttlebutt about Zarqawi here.

Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but we haven't heard a thing about it.

I wonder if it is to our advantage to look like bumbling idiots re BinLaden and the Z men etc.

It's normal to leave flypaper hung up until you have caught the maximum number of flies.

Not taking the flypaper down doesn't mean you don't know where it is......

If we ever get him, let's make sure we kill him on the spot, thus avoiding the foolishness of a Saddam-type trial. Jailing these terrorists doesn't work either when they can dig a tunnel from the mosque next door and spring everybody, as happened in Baghdad recently.
