He was bribed $2.4 million by defense contractors. This is the most painful detail of the entire sordid affair, that a man with Duke's own experiences would violate one of the most sacred tenants to which his office demanded, that the fighting men and women of this nation would only get THE BEST equipment available, not the stuff obtained from bribing an MOC. This situation is quite a bitter pill to those of us who truly held Duke in the highest esteem.

How can you spot the "Naval Aviator" in a room full of sailors? Don't worry. He'll TELL you.
No, he wont. He wont be in the same bar as 'sailors' for one. And second, in a bar full of aviators, he would be whipping out his coin with blinding speed to make sure he didn't have to buy.

CI Taft Contact Information |
Approximately 15 percent of the Bureau's inmate population are confined in secure facilities operated primarily by private corrections companies and to a lesser extent by state and local governments, and in privately-operated community corrections centers. Contract facilities help the Bureau manage its population and are especially useful for meeting the needs of low security, specialized populations like sentenced criminal aliens. Staff of the Correctional Programs Division in Central Office provide oversight for privately-operated facilities. |

Eight years is enough IF he serves the eight years. He will probably be out in two to three.

John Dean (or was it Jeb Magruder?) in his book said that Lompoc Correctional Facility was very nice. He even got some golf in, I think. You can see a pic of it by going to google earth, and typing in "lompoc prison, lompoc, california." The weather is excellent too.

Speaker Hastert Comments on the Cunningham Sentencing3/3/2006 6:45:00 PM
To: National Desk
Contact: Ron Bonjean of the Office of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, 202-225-2800
WASHINGTON, March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) today released the following statement regarding the sentencing of former Representative Randy "Duke" Cunningham:
"The court has handed Congressman Cunningham the punishment for the crimes he committed. This sentence should send a strong message that no one is above breaking our nation's laws including, the Members of Congress who make them. It is my hope that Congressman Cunningham will spend his incarceration thinking long and hard about how he broke the trust of the voters that elected him and those on Capitol Hill who served with him."

But according to the dems, if you served in the military, you get a pass on anything you do! Did he serve in Viet Nam? Did he get any medals?
/sarcasm
Actually, I'm in agreement with those who believe that anyone in public service should be held to "a higher standard," and should need to spend more time in prison, when committing crimes based on their public office.

He was bribed $2.4 million by defense contractors. Are the defense contractors going to jail too?
Usually, it's the "Bribe-ers" who go to jail, while the "Bribe-ee" gets off scott free.
Maybe it has something to do with the political party...
With "The Torch," the guy who bribed him went to prison. Torch got to keep all his bribes.

It is enough. Agreed. This man was one of my heroes; I so admired his service and values. He threw it all away and now is utterly disgraced. He has put himself in a hell he will never escape. What a punishment.
