There's certainly a lot of knee-jerk reactions and responses posted here just because the perp appears to be of middle eastern ancestry. Muslim? Maybe, mabe not. For the record, crimes of this nature are always committed by sociopathic scumbags who can be any color or ethnicity. That this one happens to "look middle eastern" doesn't make all people of that ethnicity guilty by association! I don't think that line of (un)reasoning is up to the standards of good conservatives. Burning someone alive isn't "cruel and unusual" but the poor killer can't be put to permanent sleep by injection because that would be cruel and unusual punishment. WTF?

I would love to see the punishment fit the crime, i.e. if you shoot someone, then you are shot, if you rape and stab, then you are raped and stabbed. It makes sense to me.
