Border Patrol bags 153 during raid on Yuma drop house

BY BLAKE SCHMIDT, SUN STAFF WRITER Mar 2, 2006, 9:10 pm

Border Patrol agents found 134 illegal aliens packed inside this trailer Thursday morning. LOANED PHOTO Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents busted a drop house Thursday morning that was packed with 134 illegal aliens, some of whom said they had been inside the single-wide mobile home for five days, according to a Border Patrol news release.

"The conditions inside (the trailer) were standing-room only ... dirty ... (and) with the sheer amount of people, body-heat-generated temperatures that were extremely high," said Border Patrol spokesman Rick Hays, adding that many of the aliens inside the trailer were women and children.

The trailer was discovered after agents saw two suspicious vehicles stop in front of the trailer in the 3000 block of 1st Street at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday

When agents investigated the vehicles, they found nine illegal aliens in a Mazda MPV and 10 illegal aliens in a Toyota pick up that had been reported stolen from Yuma.

After investigating the two vehicles, agents went on to investigate the mobile home, where they found the 134 illegal aliens inside.

"All of the windows were closed and the temperatures inside the trailer were sweltering," the release said.

None of the aliens were injured or required medical treatment. Agents are actively investigating the incident to discover if there were any smugglers in the group.

The Toyota truck and driver were turned over to the Yuma Police Department.

Since Oct. 1, Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector have apprehended 56,922 illegal aliens — nearly a quarter more apprehensions than made in the sector by this time last year.

There has been a rash of drop houses busted in the 1st Street area, mostly in mobile home parks. YPD and Border Patrol have stepped up surveillance in this area with good payoffs.

They cram them in like sardines, hold them until they get enough, then ship them north. The coyotes don't care about the suffering they cause these people. All they care about is the money. Some of these drop houses become so filthy they have to be gutted because of the health hazzards they present to their nieghborhoods.

Note that the article alludes to stolen vehicles used to transport the illegal criminals.
Will the apologists for these criminals explain to me how stealing someone's vehicle to use in this smuggling is justified? This is a classic example of how the open borders, look the other way crowd has it wrong... this situation impacts us all.

If this doesn't show the magnitude of the problem, nothing does. Does anyone have a realistic estimate of the percentage of aliens apprehended -- 1 in 5, 1 in 10, 1 in 20?

If this was New Mexico, Bill Richardson would give them a drivers license, put them on the voter registration rolls and send them on their way.

Geez. No wonder when they show up in my home town they don't mind living 20 or so in a ramshackle one bathroom shack with two tiny bedrooms.

It must seem like heaven to them!

They're just cramming into the trailers that Americans won't cram themselves into.

L.A. radio KFI's "John & Ken" show call these places "illegal alien clown houses."

Nice to see a raid on one for a change.
