If you missed the taxpayer-funded AIDS conference sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week in Philadelphia, you missed a doozy. For example, you missed the Positively Beautiful fashion show! After all, how in the heck can you be expected to control and prevent the spread of a killer disease like AIDS without sporting the most chic and up-to-date attire, right? Remember, its not how you feel; its how you look!
Plus, get a load of these great workshops you missed:
To start off: Open Your Schools Mind: Tired of abstinence only? Think you should have a condom basket in your high school? Find out ways to get what you want without stepping on any toes. This program is designed to give you the names of who to contact and what to do in order to open your schools mind.
Apparently what this workshop WASNT designed to do is teach you basic English. Like knowing that in the context used above, schools is supposed to be schools. But who can be bothered teaching the Kings English when there are no condom baskets in the school cafeteria, right?
Oh, oh, OH!!! And get this. . . .
A workshop titled Safety First Last: The War on Condoms teaches about the current war on condoms and examines innovative strategies to continue promoting safe sex. But this was no dry, boring, ordinary lecture/workshop. No, no, no. This baby included a CONDOM CONTEST!
Wahoo!!!
Um, then again, Im not sure exactly what a Condom Contest is. I wonder if its anything like a hot dog eating contest? Hmmm. Lets see, lets see. Oh yeah, you missed the Addressing the Sexual Health Needs of Lesbian/Bisexual Women workshop in which the critical questions Does anyone really use a dental dam? and Are lesbians really at risk for HIV and other STIs? were answered.
Then there was the Poets Fighting AIDS: Poetic Preventions 06 workshop in which attendees had a chance to share/create their own poetic pieces with a team or individually.
Hmmm. Let me give this a shot: Roses are red, Violets are blue, Who paid for this crap, Well that would be YOU! Hey, not bad, huh?
And what anti-AIDS conference would be complete without the Smokin Word Productions Tha Jump Off! hip-hop playwriting workshop involving group exercises and active writing for those whod like to start a new play or find new material for a play in progress workshop has been co-produced with the NYC Hip-hop Theatre Festival at New York University and run independently at Art NY.
Um, OK. That sounds effective in fighting AIDS.
And youre just going to KICK yourself for missing this one:
M&Ms, Flying Balls, and Velcro: This fun and interactive workshop is an opportunity for youth providers and peer educators to implement creative ways of teaching sexual health to young people. Participants will learn the benefits of incorporating many different styles based on learning theory in their approach to accommodate peoples varied learning styles. We will also model some of our favorite, most popular and effective activities that engage the youth we work with. We encourage audience participation - bring and share your favorite ideas and activities!
Sounds like something the teachers union would come up with.
Well, anyway, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that some 500 kids attended this taxpayer-funded conference - but neglected to report on who exactly won the Condom Contest! Pretty sloppy reporting if you ask me.
AIDS is a serious problem which should be taken seriously. What a shame taxpayer dollars are being wasted on ridiculous stuff like this instead of on finding a cure.
A vicious self-inflicted disease. It's tragic that occasionally innocent mates (wives, girlfriends, children) get it from the guilty. There's going to be a special corner of Hell reserved for the teachers and leaders who are seducing children into this killer lifestyle. ("Better that you have a millstone around your neck than cause one of my young ones to fall.")
You know, I think the thing that annoys me most is that Republicans have been in power long enough to stop this nonsense. Now I love the GOP as much as the next freeper, but WHY on earth are our tax dollars still supporting utter tripe like this?
2001 13.9 billion dollars. 2002 14.7 2003 16.8 2004 18.5 2005 19.9 2006 21.1 2007 22.8 (request)
Spending up 64% in 6 years. This administration is LBJ all over again.
Over the past 10 years, the federal government has directly spent 84 billion dollars on subsized HIV/AIDS medical care.
13.5 billion dollars in direct cash handouts under SSI/SSDI and 2.6 billion dollars in subsidized housing.
25 billion dollars in research.
Thanks, gay lobby. Thanks alot.
Yet, they gladly accept every new dollar which I send them, so they can spend it to keep all these queers on the streets!
Disclaimer: I am not "homophobic", I just despise them! They are an abomination to our society, imho, and in God's opinion, as well!
PING!
Meanwhile, the CDC admits that condoms do not prevent the spread of a sexually transmitted disease (HPV) that kills thousands of American women each year (and makes many infertile). Yet do you hear them out there letting people know it? Nope; instead, they keep trumpeting condoms as the answer!
"Well, anyway, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that some 500 kids attended this taxpayer-funded conference - but neglected to report on who exactly won the Condom Contest! Pretty sloppy reporting if you ask me. "

Not exactly a "public school" story, but it involves school-aged children being "educated"; our tax dollars at work...
500 kids attended this taxpayer-funded conference
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
500 hundred impressionable kids? Probably bused in from government schools.
Please, please, please,,,,,would some brave soul drive a wooden stake through the heart of government schools? Abolish them! They are literally killing our children. I call that child abuse.
Ping
Article about an AIDS conference, but note the "Open Your Schools Mind" workshop and that "some 500 kids attended" this conference.
You despise them as many do, because the perverted have been normalized and those that don't buy it have been demonized.
