In the hectic, confused hours after Hurricane Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast, Louisiana's governor hesitantly but mistakenly assured the Bush administration that New Orleans' protective levees were intact, according to new video obtained by The Associated Press showing briefings that day with federal officials.
"We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said shortly after noon on Aug. 29, according to the video. "We heard a report unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time."

Blanco Screws Up With Troops - Proof on Camera! (VIDEO)
http://www.exposetheleft.com/2005/09/12/blancocnndaybreak/
There is a shot where Blanco is being set up several days ago for a TV interview, and her press secretary is helping her adjust her mic. Theyre having a personal conversation, but the cameraman catches it!! In it, she kinda jokes to her press secretary something like yeah, well I guess I really need to ask for troops, and a couple more things she says. A bit later in hte segment she gets into a semi-argument with Miles OBrien, and hes pointedly asking her exactly WHEN she asked the President for troops. She gets frustrated and says she didnt even know what day it was the, she was confused, but Miles presses her.
Ping. Thought this was very appropriate based on your earlier message. By the way, thank you so much.
Doesn't matter, it's always Bush's fault dontcha know!
So if Bush blinked he might have missed that. IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!! Shame on him for blinking! Can't he read between the lines? He should know all women communicate that way!
;-)
I recall reading in another thread that there had been plans to construct gates between the lake and the canals some years ago, but environmentalists blocked the construction. Had such gates been constructed, they might have greatly contained the damage.
I like how when they talk about Blanco, they talk about the "hectic, confused time", while when they talk about Bush they act to dismiss the claim of the "fog of war" claims.
Does anyone else here continue to bang your head into a wall? I'm not an engineer, a mayor, a governor or even from Louisiana, but I have heard about and read about the potentiality and likelihood of a major flood disaster in the city of New Orleans for at least 5 years. How can these idiots in Louisiana keep a straight face when they look into the cameras claiming they knew nothing?
Thanks for the ping.
FALSE: The video has a man talking about OVERTOPPING the levees, but NOT breaching the levees. They are completely different things. There is NO VIDEO of anybody warning about breaching the levees.
And Democrats who refuse to do their job shouldn't be allowed to even SPEAK about the issue.
When you live around such features you visualize them as you talk about "the canal", "the levee", "the causeway", "the bridge", and so forth.
Regardless of whether or not that's true. A breach in the canal levees signals the same unstoppable doom for the city that the lake levees do. It's not plausible to think that the Governor was saying "I think we're OK" just because someone didn't ask the right question (or phase it correctly).
Lastly... does the governor "live around such features"?
I lived in New Orleans for decades. The levees are those tall hill-like mounds of dirt along the banks of the Mississippi River. The walls lining the drainage canals have always been called "floodwalls".To my knowledge, Gov.Blanko has never lived in New Orleans. The governor's mansion is in Baton Rouge, 80 miles +/- upriver from New Orleans and is situated about a mile from the levee on the east bank of the Mississippi River.
Do not become confused by the fact that the Orleans Parish Levee Board oversaw the floodwalls ... they were still called floodwalls ... and, it was the floodwalls that breached.
Amen!!!!! And Landrieu's brother wants to be the next Mayor of New Orleans! The corruption in New Orleans is deeper than the Katrina waters. These people rank right next to the Clintons.
Forget Mississippi, Alabama and Texas. They are rebuilding. Louisiana is whining.
For extra credit, name the party in power in each of those states. :-)
She wasn't confused - likely stupid. She Eff'd up.
I was along the Texas/Lousiana border a couple of weeks ago (Rita was in September).
Virtually every roof in some communities has blue tarp to cover over damaged roofs. There is no construction yet.
Dems treated the city badly...
There would only be RAVES describing Gore and his FEMA's response.
Katrina would be DESCRIBE constantly as the WORST NATURAL DISASTER of all time and that the effort by the Federal government was unprecendented.
The story would be something like this:
Thousands of LIVES were saved by the decisive actions of President Gore. His calling in General Honoree was a master stroke of genius that underscores how important it is to have a compassionate, intelligent leader in the White House.
You have made a valid point. I left Louisiana nearly twenty years ago ... after having lived in New Orleans for decades. At the start of every hurricane season [annually] the local newsrag [the liberal Times Picayune that my husband will not even allow in the house!] runs an article about hurricane preparedness ... how "The Big One" could destroy New Orleans, etc. etc. etc. Everyone I ever knew in the city was more than aware that the failure of the pumping stations [always much more likely than the floodwalls being breached] would spell doom for large sections of the city. Everyone with a lick of sense dreaded being in the city when it ultimately happened. I am glad I was not there when it did ... but my heart breaks for those who were ....It was nothing new ... and this sham ... We're shocked ... shocked! Well, who was to know ... is just CYA time. Believe it.
Blanco was getting her marching orders from DNC Headquarters.
Very good point of clarification.
I have seen private video of a thirty foot wall of water.
And many in NO know full well what happened.
The MSM and the freaken Dems could/would/should look up the definition of "breach". I'm so sick of them using this word to describe the damage caused by a huge hurricane and a thirty foot wall of water and blaming it on everyone but themselves and God.
Oops. They wouldn't dare blame God.
That would ruin their religious image.
Did anyone see Mitch Landrieu's pic, registering for the NO mayoral election with his Wednesday ashes on his forehead?
Egg-zackt-leeeeeee.
