Same-Sex Couple in Splitsville (New Paltz, NY)
New Paltz Oracle ^ | Thursday, March 2, 2006 | Elizabeth Griffin

The first gay couple to be unofficially married in New Paltz, Billiam vanRoestenberg and Jeffrey McGowan, are splitting up after two years of marriage.

VanRoestenberg told midhudsonnews.com of the split and that he is “very distraught” over it. McGowan is said to have been the partner that sought the separation.

According to midhudsonnews.com, the New York State courts have ruled that marriage, as defined by the state Constitution, is a union between a man and a woman. No court decision invalidated any of the solemnizations between the same-sex couples in New Paltz.

Almost exactly two years ago, on Feb. 27, 2004 New Paltz Village Mayor Jason West married 25 same sex couples. McGowan and vanRoestenberg were the first to walk down the aisle.

“This is a very happy day for me, my partner Jeff and for the citizens of the U.S.,” vanRoestenberg told The Oracle two years ago. “If you fight and believe in good things, they will happen.”

The national divorce rate is around 50 percent in the United States and in states like Massachusetts, where same-sex marriage was legalized in May 2004, it was expected with same-sex marriage, same-sex divorce would follow.

What an absolute shock! This is the couple that inspired New Paltz mayor Jason West to perform gay "marriages" in New Paltz, NY, sparking a national controversy.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The first gays (women) married in MA were also divorced. I'd bet the rate of divorce for the fudge packers will be really high.

Yep, that's not a typo. His name is really Billiam. And people say that environmental factors have nothing to do with being gay and it's all in the genes...

Actually, Billiam vanRoestenberg and Jeffrey McGowan, are finally accepting reality after two years of attempting to live a delusionally premised leftist simulation of marriage. The leftist village is saddened...

Uhhhhhh they were never married, therefore, there is no such thing as same sex divorce. Just another split for greener pastures, nothing to see here.

They should have each read Dr. Laura's book, "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands". Then maybe they would have stayed together....

LMAO...

"Feeding" takes on a different connoation then. Dr. Laura would have to revise her book to account for this.

The court order did not invalidate the non-marriage solimizations. DUH!

This article was trying to call this recreational sex relationship as a "marriage" for propaganda.
