New poll at CNN has Bush's approval rating at 38%... Ouch!
I love the Battleground poll, but to be honest, that poll is 3 weeks old, and doesn't capture the effect of this whole Port issue... In addition, Ras is now at 42%. Being that Ras tries to capture likely voters, and has a constant mix of GOP and Dems, and these other polls average around 38%, you've got to belive Bush is at about 40%. Which is, any way you look at it, using any barometer you'd like, pathetic... and really sad.
Once again, here we go. If we add 5% to the GOP side, that would add 4 points (assuming an 80% GOP-approval rate)) to his total. If we reduce the Dem total by 5%, it would remove 1 point (assuming a 20% Dem-approval) from the total. So, by making them equal weighting, you really only add 3 points, max, to the total.
If GOP support falls below 80%, then the real marginal increase is even smaller. Does it really make that much difference whether he's at 34% or 37% .
Now, if we're saying that beyond skewing the GOP/DEM figures, the actual stats are being manipulated, THEN all bets are off, but I don't think that's the case.
That's been my beef almost from the get-go. Kennedy's (lie after lie after lie, war concocted in Crawford for political purposes, the debates, where Bush allowed Kerry to lie through his teeth and didn't challenge him, etc)... It's all taken a huge toll, and I'm disgusted by it
I have always felt that Cheney should be replaced as a VP and stay on as a trusted advisor. One of the major roles as a VP is to forcefully defend our President (for all of Gore's faults, he was fantastic and supporting Bubba on all fronts). Cheney has been reticent to do so, partially because of the media-created Haliburton connection, and now he's become a laughing stock as a result of the hunting accident. He appeals to the base, but the great majority of Americans don't like him.
These are the facts, at least from my perspective.
OK, thanks. You were taking 12% increase over the 34. I don't think that's really statistically significant though
Communist Network News strikes again.
Yeah, don't they have some news to report or something rather than making up pointless polls?
No.
They're in the propaganda business.
Are you really discounting ALL of these polls? Really now?
Thanks PfromP. You may get clobbered by other FReepers for even the slightest critique of Cheney, so make sure you wear your hardhat!
Sounds high to me for a President who couldn't give a rat's heiney about the borders, illegal immigration, or port security.
How do you figure that? Seriously. If a person doesn't like Bush, does that mean he's not going to vote for his Republican Senator or Rep? Bush is not on the ballot in 2006. The democrats have very low poll numbers as well. Lower than Bush's as a matter of fact. But when people vote in mid-term elections, they vote for their rep. Not the President.
