03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS

Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.

In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s midterm election.

For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bush’s overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent — today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the president’s approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

So, just exactly WHY would any terrorist need DPW to LEASE a terminal, for them to nuke a port here?

They have correctly figured out that this could be a wedge issue....we seem to be helping.

I do wonder if they don't notice who is pushing this agenda, and stop to think to themselves, "The last 50 'scandals' this bunch pushed amounted to nothing, and brought them to the edge of ruin . . . should I be worried and look for some evidence of wrongdoing by this company???"

The number of people who are registered with a particular party and the number that self-identify with that party-and vote for that party-are not necessarily synonymous.

The reason that Republicans win presidential and national elections is because the Democratic Party post-Humphrey has been hijacked by radical ideologues, whose values are inimical to those of the vast majority of the American public.

When the Democratic Party is led by individuals who aren't radicals-or who at least don't appear that way to the public-e.g. Truman, JFK, Clinton, in congressional races, Tip O'Neill, Carl Albert, etc., they win almost without exception.

Okay, technically JFK and the Democrats stole the 1960 election, but you get the picture.

My point is that simply because there might be a conservative majority in this country, does not by any stretch of the imagination imply that there is a Republican majority.

"Sure Ed, I think we should go ahead and give Cyberdyne the contract to build a self-aware computer capable of manufacturing a race of armored killing machines. I mean, you can't give me a specific example of this company ever endangering anybody before, can you?"

Ah, so your concerns come from Science Fiction then?

Hell, in the real world the Terminator is the Gov of 'Ka-lee-for-nee-ah'!

In the real world, what evidence of wrongdoing do you have against this company?

Seriously, man -- are you considering your position, your lack of 'evidence'? Surely you're an man of reason, swayed by evidence, who respects when others require evidence before condemning a company?

:-)

And a terrorist married a friend of a cousin of the best-man at my wedding, so my sister's boyfriend's ex-wife said!

What's that 6 degrees thing?

I am absolutely stunned at the out and out bigotry by people on this forum.

Not me. Just look at what creeps into the immigration threads.

Wait until the find out there are 5.5 million Muslims in the US and the biggest groups are 2.1 million Afro American Muslims, 1.22 million South Asian Muslims and 640 thousand Arab Muslims. Then things will really begin to roll.

Oh, now you're hittin the hard stuff!

Reminds me of Guiness warm in a glass, the way they served it to me in Cardiff.

Altho I think motor oil might have been a bit smoother.

>>ducks from mugs thrown by those with good beer taste<<

Hey, here's a thought -- spend 5 seconds posting a specific bit of evidence against this company!

Kind of like Newark and Citibank?

And let's not forget Florida! They lived there and learned to fly there!

Chucky Schumer began this entire brouhaha.

He is the DNC head of getting Dems to win seats in BOTH Houses, this fall.

The MSM, as always, are complicit in only giving his/the DEM side.

Some of the GOPers, who fell all over themselves to join in, are spineless ninnies, but worse than that, some, such as Frist, imagine that they can be president.

Will this issue really be the "wedge" that allows the damned Dems to take over both Houses, in November? I wouldn't bet on it.

The Dems have far more "iffy" seats, than the GOP does and never forget, even when people say that they are mad at or hate the Congress, when it comes down to LOCAL/ as in their congresscritter, that's a whole 'nother thing.

I find it interesting that a conservative forum like FR is so divided and passionate about this issue.

The division is between rabid capitalists the WOT disciples.

Are we greedy and out of touch to the point that every business deal is sacred or have we been galvanized by 9/11 and the WOT rhetoric to the point that all things Islam terrify us?

One thing is for sure, Americans are growing weary of being warned about the boogieman while watching this administration appear to hide him in the closet.

Goodnight…sleep tight...

It's a very good point. There are a large number of FReepers like myself who don't and probably never will consider ourselves republicans. If the democrat, republican, independent or whatever is the better candidate, that's who I'll vote for.

In a way I'm freer than any pure partisan. If the democrats take power, I won't sit home and sulk, I'll stand and oppose or support them depending on the individual issue at hand. I've managed to remain faithfull to my ideals this way.

I'm not fooled by the democrats any more than I'm fooled by the republicans. It enrages pure partisans but that's OK too. I'm just not intimidated by either side.
