At Penn State University, Acts of intolerance are unacceptable and in order to prevent them and punish offenders the school has a Report Hate hotline and Web site.

More about the lawsuit against Penn State

"Web site....
I hope it's not accessible through the public internet!
To: JSedreporter
How very Soviet of them. If your neighbor is harboring bad thoughts it is your duty to report them to the authorities so their thoughts can be corrected.

Yeah, the website is readily available, but to make a complaint you have to have a Penn State username and password, but complaints can be anonymous. So there is no facing your accuser.

They'll shut it down soon enough if enough Christians call the line and complain about name-calling by the gays...

Isn't snitching an act of intolerance?

How is it possible that in the span of one generation our American institutions of higher learning have become bulwarks of Fascism?
To: JSedreporter
I graduated in '66 and find it hard to understand the Penn State of today. In the turbulent '60s, Penn State was mostly conservative by college standards.

A friend once showed me a photo of statues from either Romania or Bulgaria -- the former communist regime literally erected one in honor of The Informer, who dutifully reported thinkers of counterrevolutionary thoughts to the state.

Trebb raised a good point in post #9. So I wonder. If a conservative student wore one of those T-shirts with "stop snitching" on it, would it be tolerated?

If a conservative student wore one of those T-shirts with "stop snitching" on it, would it be tolerated? If just one liberal student complained about it, it would be prosecuted as a "hate crime". Objective reality has nothing to do with this - it is all about emotion and left-wing power politics. If a member of a protected class "feels" that someone is "creating a hostile environment" because of something someone else does or says, or even claims as much, without offering any evidence - the offender is presumptively guilty and subject to disciplinary action.
Orwell was prescient, if a few years too early in his predictions.
