Publish the Barrett report now

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "No wonder they call us the Stupid Party," said a disgusted Republican operative in Washington. "You've got to wonder what these guys were thinking."

At issue was the publication of a report by David Barrett, an independent counsel who has spent the better part of a decade looking into some of the most hair-raising allegations of presidential malfeasance in American history.

Like most independent counsels, Barrett didn't set out on such a mission. He was assigned the duty of looking into whether former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros committed tax fraud in trying to cover up payments to a former mistress.

Yet, as published reports have indicated, he soon discovered that he was onto something much bigger. He found unsettling evidence that Justice Department officials were actively interfering with the probe and even conducting surveillance of Barrett and his office. Worse, there were indications that Team Clinton was using key players at the IRS and Justice to harass, frighten and threaten people who somehow got in the former president's way.

I think the GOP just lacks the will to survive -- it's headed the way of the dinosaur unless it radically changes its disposition.

Perhaps a high roller Republican can put out a million dollar reward for the full Barrett Report.

You may well be right, sir. Some Republicans don't want to win. They just want to be in office for some reason. Not the same thing as winning.

Heck, why not just do away with elections and enacting legislation and just put all the power up to the highest bidder?

It has been said of some boxers that they are great fighters , but they dont have what it takes to finish off an opponent. That Certainly seem to be the case with republicans. Democrats will go off and make accusations at the least provocation. They scream impeachment if they get a sniff at anything they feel may harm the president. Republicans seem to have a great lack of courage.

"They just want to be in office for some reason."

I've often wondered if some of them are there just to serve one term to enable then to get the pension/retirement when they leave, as some of them have no interest in doing anything once they've been elected and move to DC.

Personally I think they should have to serve the minimum of 20 years just as our military do to be eligible.

That, and enact a 12 year term-limit.....

You might want to send it to Tony.....maybe he will get the hint that he needs to prod Sen. Grassley...and also it will be a different subject than the ports deal!!

For the sake of arguement, is it possible they're holding off to use it at a time that is more advantageous? If they publish the full report now, the controversy it would cause will have died down before the next election. And definitely before Hillary would make a run for the White House. Maybe I'm being naive and hoping that our Republican Congresscritters have more guts than to just let this go.

I think they believe that if they suck up to their enemies; the enemies will spare them. This belief, if not shattered, will lead to their marginalization or worse.

LOL. Not a bad idea. It's amazing how these politicians hollar about the public's right to know, unless they don't, for their own reasons, want us to know.

Senator Grassley makes me think of the old Hayley Mills character "Pollyanna." He is clueless on most matters. But people in IA are absolutely sold on him.

=====================================================================

Perhaps I need to clarify. Scumbag Larry Flynt was paying a reward of a million bucks for dirt on Republicans. This isn't about doing away with elections and power to the highest bidder. It is a million bucks for someone with access getting an incentive to leak the full report. The Dems leak info all the time that damages our country. Let's have a good leak, one that can finally put a stake in the vampire's heart.
