An Anti-Gay Easter [FR mentioned]
In These Times ^ | March 1, 2006 | By John Ireland

Posted on 03/01/2006 12:01:59 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Whose children will be allowed to participate in the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll on April 17? Not the sons and daughters of gay parents, if the Christian right gets its way.

In November, when the Family Pride Coalition, a D.C.-based gay rights advocacy group, invited its members to participate in one of the “great traditions of our country” the religious right sprang into action. The Institute on Religion and Democracy, a religious think tank, accused the Family Pride Coalition of trying to “exploit a children’s event for political purposes.” Even the White House has weighed in.

~~snip~~

The Christian right blogosphere is afire, condemning the presence of gay parents on the White House lawn as “nearly terrorist threats from the homo lobby.” One post suggests that “White House psychologists” should be deployed to help the children of gay parents and implies that they are molested in their homes. Another wishes the gays “good luck,” reminding readers that “the Secret Service carries automatic weapons.”

Such posts are, of course, “those of the individual posters” to http://www.FreeRepublic.com, “and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of … its operators.” The site claims 200,000 registered members, known as “Freepers,” and a daily readership of “tens of thousands.” Free Republic, founded in 1996, has been embraced by right-wing social conservatives as the online water cooler for “patriots” who are “biased toward God, country, family, liberty and freedom.”

Or at least liberty and freedom for some. “These lowlife scum should just be mowed down like terrorists,” writes one good Christian.

"Until you understand the basic rules of life discussing almost anything with you is a waste of time. "

As is asking you any questions, it appears.

"You simply try to twist things around instead of actually discussing the issue."

Nope. Just asked questions you were unable to answer.

Given your lack of knowledge, taking your advice seems like a waste of time.

Your cut and paste information is in complete disagreement with the information posted earlier. Perhaps your "ping" list needs to coordinate your disinformation a bit better..........

You asked for a source and you got it. Now you attack the messenger LOL. Debate in support of a postion with statements that entail personal attacks is not effective. Then again the support of the homosexual agenda on FR is not given a platform.

I guess you are caught in a catch 22 -either stick your neck out and post something substantial which will subsequently get you zotted OR continue disparaging those whose position you oppose...

From my perspective, either way, your postings on this issue amount to but a passing inconvenience...

"disagree. I'd rather have a kid in a state-run orphanage (or better yet, in a religious orphanage) than in the home of a homosexual. The first is not an ideal situation. The second is child abuse."

I hold this position, as well.

Trying to teach a child calculus when that child does not understand arithmetic is a waste of time. Take the advice I gave and go learn your arithmetic and we'll then work you up to the answers to your questions.

Until then God bless and keep you.

" Maybe the Easter Bunny is a girl? I've never checked to see if the EB is male or female.

Now that's an interesting take on things. This may require some investigation.

That reminds me, where is scripter?

I realized last week that providing Barney Frank's lapdog with facts was a waste of time. All you do with facts is ignore them. And you may as well ignore them because you can't chew facts when your posting behavior is similar to a toothless chihuahua.

You also tried to change the subject, insert immeasurables and sob stories about your past, used misdirection and ad hominem and you never, ever, supported your statements.

BTW, that behavior got you banned from FR. Now go and leave your life of sin.

"One parent per child" does not work with *more than two child* homes. At the risk of sounding like a whiner, it is not fair to those and actually would work against traditional families. I'm guessing that these homosexual families don't have three or more kids. Limiting it to their own is fine but not to number.

Aside from that, I've been to and seen Easter Egg hunts and couldn't be bothered. The kids are blood thirsty and a lot go away with really hurt feelings because of the bullies. I can't imagine an event with that many people.

instead/in addition to having a stupid easter egg hunt maybe the whitehouse could read from their bibles about the death and rising again of Christ.

Well, that would probably be effective in keeping the homosexuals away but not the ACLU.

That ought to leave a mark, but probably won't.

Simply because it's over 1000 posts long and nobody's going to spend that much time reading through it.

I noted your side discussion and thought I might interject my basic understanding on the Old Testament issue that many consider an apparent contradiction within Sacred Scripture. I am not a biblical scholar but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

The apparent contradiction between Old & New Testament is one often declared by those ignorantly or intentionally attempting to refute Christianity and or by those attempting to further some agenda that contradicts some portion of Sacred Scripture...

I hope I present something that may help others argue against the apparent contradiction and something that may as well help others understand more legitimately the totality of what God has divinely revealed -- how both old law and new covenant are not contradictory and both still quite valid....

Since we are on the topic of homosexuality I will use homosexuality as example:

Most homosexual agenda apologetics and or homosexual agenda activists that reference Christianity and even those that claim to be Christians yet argue in support of homosexuality tend to be cafeteria Christians ignoring some stuff and embracing other stuff and in essence attempting to twist truth to fit the version of reality they promote -- They suggest homosexuality is okay, that homosexual sex is 'love' and point to nothing except their own morally relative derived interpretation of what is clearly written or not written in Sacred Scripture. Some ignore the general and point to the lack of specific, some ignore the old and point to the new, some attempt to compare and contrast the old against the new illegitimately, some want only certain 'specifics' and only New Testament stuff -some go one step further than most and only specifically want quotes from Christ...

[They] have one thing in common and that is [they] all want only that which supports their particular agenda and wish to ignore or turn on its head that which affronts it...

The truth however is simple -it does not contradict itself -it can not. Apparent contradiction signals one thing and one thing only only -a lack of understanding which subseqently can result in a denial and or compromise of truth. Only by accepting all truth is any single truth authentically derived and elaborated upon...

Again, contradiction does not impinge upon truth -[it] signals but a lack of understanding that must be reconciled but not reconciled at the expense of truth...

Some may know some or all of what I post; however, I post it anyway just in case there are some genuinely seeking answers and also in case there are those that may not know and would benefit by simply being exposed to it.

Old Testament law is still quite valid -Christ did not do away with the law (see New Testament Matthew 5:17-19 below). Old Testament ceremony, ritual and penalties of man may have been done away with; however, the 'old law' is still in effect, mortal sin is still mortal sin and still damages the soul and can condemn one to damnation.

Accepting that Old Testament Laws regarding moral guidance are still valid should be easier to reconcile if one understands that the new covenant fulfilled the law rather than did away with the law.

New Testament: NAB:

  • Matthew 5:17-19

17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

18 Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

One needn't read past the first page or two of that thread to find several "kill 'em all" posts. It's an embarassment to FR.

Melvin Udall has some of the funnies quotes in a movie. The one about going down to camp david is, IMO, the best one.
