Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
We for sure have to add "takes jobs that Americans won't do" to the drinking list...ARGGGGGGHHH!
Yep.
Charlotte.

That's what I did. I spoke English the first day of class only, so I could explain what we were going to be doing. That was it. It works really well.
Our stomachs are going to be sloshing!
Today they think if you make them speak English it takes away their heritage
Which is not true .. I know many families who speak a different language at home with family .. but they always speak English in public
I have to admit that I am amazed at the
NC is a big ag state and they only have one INS building .. wow
Exactly. Speak whatever you want at home, but to get on in this country you need to learn English eventually.
Kyle is back up with an amendment
I'm a recently retired high school teacher here in Miami. At our school, we had 30 different languages represented. The only group catered to was in the "English for Spanish Speakers" class. One of my students, a legal immigrant from China, had no choice but immersion and she did just fine. Matter of fact, she asked me to be her Godmother because she wanted an English-speaking "Mom". Today, I'm proud to say she's a US citizen and is in pharmacy school.
I don't think that we need to have a whole cottage industry in English to Spanish books, classes, teachers. I'd much rather have the bucks spent on Civics courses.
What? Huge numbers of these illegals that McCain/Kennedy want to foist on us are CRIMINALS? I'll be interested to see, if this comes to a vote, who will vote against it.
Let's not take the fact that they are criminals as fact yet. The stretching of truth is being done by both sides. It's rhetoric. All I hear is rhetoric, let's fix the damn problem. GO AFTER THE EMPLOYEERS!
I have got to think that, if they haven't done it for the last 20 years, they are not going to do it for the next 20. As for not taking for a fact that they are criminals, I believe Kyl was talking about people who had been convicted and jailed. I guess I would take them for criminals.
No, it stems from the large number of Hispanic lobbyists and Spanish language-target businesses we have now. They made great headway into the ed system in the late '80's. Teachers here are required to take a Multicultural Education Training and Advocacy course, but it was generated from a lawsuit by Hispanic plaintiffs.
Great, then we will not be able to easily reverse it. But why don't they want their kids to learn English? They can keep their culture.
What has happened here this afternoon, anything noteworthy?
There are any number of similar transcripts that could be waived at him. He and his insane clown posse do this all the time.
Of course if you or I were the Majority leader, I don't know that they would have gotten away with it this often.
I would have told them, that for every half a day they STALL, they get an amendment that they want voted on taken away.
Okay, I'll vote for you for Majority Leader...in a heart beat.
