Doctors for the first time disclosed that Governor George Pataki has a seriously ruptured appendix that has sent the infection throughout his abdomen.
At a news conference this afternoon, doctors revealed that the governor's medical condition is somewhat worse than previously believed. Yes, he is said to be in good spirits, but is fighting an infection that will keep him hospitalized here indefinitely.
His doctors revealed that his appendix was so badly ruptured that the infection spread throughout his abdominal cavity. Dr. Spencer Amory is one of Pataki's surgeons.
Dr. Amory: "He had a ruptured appendix, which is spread throughout the intestinal tract in the abdomen."
Doctors say the governor has had a fever since he was first hospitalized two weeks ago. Although his digestive function has not returned to normal, Pataki has been able to digest small amounts of solid food for the first time.
Dr. Marc Bessler: "He has had slow return of digestive function, which has returned and that is part of the reason he is here."
Today's news conference ended a virtual media blackout. John Cahill is the governor's chief of staff.
Cahill: "If there is one thing I can do it's pull his Blackberry away from the governor once and a while and cell phone because he does need to get some rest."
The governor has been hospitalized now for 12 days. That is essentially 10 days longer than expected. His staff tonight is clearly trying to put a good face on this.
Shoot - I don't like what I hear...infection in the abdominal cavity. One year ago my mother died from a staph infection that was in her abdominal cavity after a leg bypass surgery. My poor frail mother didn't die of the 3 leg bypass surgies (one leg twice) or the eventual amputation of both legs (one month apart), but sure enough she died of the staph infection she caught during one of the surgeries.
I hope and pray that Gov. Pataki's infection can be beat and that he will get well soon! Prayers up for the Gov!
Prayers up for Pataki. A ruptured appendix is a nasty business. TG, modern antibiotics will knock the infection out of him.
"Pataki is a gun grabbing RINO. I'll save my prayers for someone else."
This is the kind of comment that gives Republicans and Second Amendment supporters a bad name.
I'd heard the term "gun nuts" before, and I knew they existed, but now I see what it can mean. Your values are badly skewed, at best. No, of course you don't have to pray for a man who doesn't matter to you. But don't talk as if he's unworthy of prayer.
Let's hope, my mom couldn't beat a staph infection once spread through the stomach. But she was older (76 yrs) and in bad health. They used heavy antibiotics on her and it she still couldn't beat the infection.
ouch!
That was very sad about your mom. To go through so much--all that surgery--and then to be taken by a staph infection.
Hospitals can be dangerous places.
You have my sympathies.
Prayers for Governor Pataki. I thought I had the flu but really I had a ruptured appendix. I have never hurt so much in my whole life! (Even having five children!)
"I'll save my prayers for someone else"
I am a big Second Amendment supporter but your statement is cold blooded.
Have you ever been hospitalized with a serious illness?I sure have and its a frightening ordeal.
Politics should have bearing on wishing someone a fast recovery unless its a Hitler,Stalin or Pol Pot were talking about.
A sick AMERICAN politician?I don't care how liberal they are,I still want them to live!
Thank you....It was a real hard thing to go through. She's dancing in Heaven now thank goodness!!!
No, God heard you loud and clear, of that, I'm very sure.
But I doubt he's happy about it.
Prayers for Pataki and his family.
I should have said NO bearing.Sorry for the typo.
Being conservative doesn't mean being unfeeling, even if it's somebody whose politics you can't stand.
I don't understand. Did you mean, politics should have [no] bearing... ?
The three you have named instituted policies that have killed millions. Pataki probably has contributed to the deaths of tens or hundreds, through his policies that weaken self-defense and embolden criminals. Where exactly is the line drawn? Or are you being hypocritical in not praying for those three, too?
Took three weeks and I was 43. Mine had ruptured the previous year and then resealed itself (can you say walking dead man?) but when it finally blew it blew big. 8inch surgury scar to prove it. Took them 4 hours to clean me out and 1 week of IV antibiotics before they let me escape the hospital.
If it wasn't for my wife I would have just continued sleeping on the floor hunched over a pillow. She dragged me in to the doctor who originally diagnosed gall bladder as the pain was way high under my liver. After the cat scan He met us at the door to his office, lead me into a room and asked,"So John, Who's your favorite surgeon?". "why" I replied, "am I having surgery?" He said "yes, in about an hour"
God was very very good to me. My appendix had ruptured, gone gangrenous and curled way up under my liver. I was a mess. Didn't hurt too bad though.
I nearly died from neglect. By the time the doctor decided I had appendicitis I had been sick about 36 hours. He told me to go to the hospital. My mom was sick so my aunt drove me. Horrible trip in pain. I got to the hospital and they refused to admit me. Said they had beds only in pediatrics and at 16 I was "too big." Really awful pain my now. Back in the car looking for another hospital to take me over snow-covered winter roads. About an hour later got to second hospita;. They had no rooms sostashed me in the hallway on a gurney. They said "the doctor will be here in aboiut eight hours." By the eighth hour it had stopped hurting. They finally got me into surgery, opened me up fast (I still have a 10-inch-ling scar) and found me full of puss and blood. I stayed in the hospital for about a week, then another three weeks at home. Later found I had almost died. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
