Cabela's should respond by building in Gary, Indiana instead. Then they should mount an advertising blitz in the Chicago market pointing out that the jobs, tax revenue, and economic growth they would have brought to Illinois will be going to Indiana instead, but jobs would still be open to Illinois residents willing to commute across the state line. They should emphasize in their ads that they were very interested in putting a store in the Chicago area, but that excessive, prohibitive, and confiscatory regulations made it economically infeasible to do so.
I don't see a lot of Chi-Town denizens finding much to buy in Cabelas.
These same idiots were against opening a walmart right outside of chicago also.. walmart does have its downsides, however, it will create jobs and tax revenue.
