(AP) - Former United Nations ambassador and Atlanta mayor Andrew Young will be the public spokesman for a group organized with backing from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. that defends the world's largest retailer against mounting attacks from its critics.
Working Families for Wal-Mart, a group of community leaders from across the country, was set to announce Monday that Young will be the chairman of its 16 member steering committee formed in December to counter charges from two union-backed groups that are pressuring Wal-Mart to improve wages and benefits.

He's right on this point also. This is why 25000 people applied for 350 jobs when the Chicago store opened. I still fail to see what is wrong with people getting entry jobs rather than collecting welfare.
Walter Williams is just as phoney as Andrew Young.
He sold-out his economic credibity for partisan propaganda long, long ago.
And proves that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks :)
Not in the least, he just doesn't spout off leftist ecomonic bile. Unions destroy jobs and the ability to succeed, even for it's members. The death of unionism is a major plus for the country, now if we can kill off public employee unions, the country would be better off.
Whatever remote chance there was that I might again shop at Wally World is dashed by having this West-hating, Jimmy Carterite liberal being paid to publicly support them.
He's shown signs of sanity in the past.
Andrew Young = "the insincere and unworthy demagog, promising much and performing nothing, or else performing nothing but evil, who would set on the mob to plunder the rich"The triumph of the mob is just as evil a thing as the triumph of the plutocracy, and to have escaped one danger avails nothing whatever if we succumb to the other. In the end the honest man, whether rich or poor, who earns his own living and tries to deal justly by his fellows, has as much to fear from the insincere and unworthy demagog, promising much and performing nothing, or else performing nothing but evil, who would set on the mob to plunder the rich, as from the crafty corruptionist, who, for his own ends, would permit the common people to be exploited by the very wealthy. If we ever let this Government fall into the hands of men of either of these two classes, we shall show ourselves false to America's past. Moreover, the demagog and the corruptionist often work hand in hand. There are at this moment wealthy reactionaries of such obtuse morality that they regard the public servant who prosecutes them when they violate the law, or who seeks to make them bear their proper share of the public burdens, as being even more objectionable than the violent agitator who hounds on the mob to plunder the rich. There is nothing to choose between such a reactionary and such an agitator; fundamentally they are alike in their selfish disregard of the rights of others; and it is natural that they should join in opposition to any movement of which the aim is fearlessly to do exact and even justice to all.
~ Theodore Roosevelt, 6th Annual Message to Congress, December 3, 1906
Walter Williams = "the crafty corruptionist, who, for his own ends, would permit the common people to be exploited by the very wealthy."
They're both worthless.
Times have changed since 1906, but union mentality has not.
Nor has Wall Street's mentality.
??????
I will take that one step further....if they are currently collecting welfare but are making such an effort I see nothing wrong for a certain amount of assistance to continue until they are on their feet. Isn't a leg up how the whole system started in the first place? Why not return it to it's original purpose, a helping hand not a lifestyle?
Of course that is why the left hates WalMart - that is exactly what they are offering, a chance to get out of the entitlement lifestyle.
"I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

"Of all forms of tyranny the least attractive and the most vulgar is the tyranny of mere wealth, the tyranny of plutocracy."

"Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power."

Good morning!!!
What is this, the 3rd or 4th day in a row????? I did the "WalMart" ping list as a lark - holy cow and never thught I would use it so much - I think this was about the 5th time I've used it in the past 3 days.
Yup,it's been a busy weekend for WAL-MART threads.
It's amazing how obsessed people are with this successful business.:)
Of course they hate Walmart, it's an American success story.
And it's not just here. On the forums I participate from the newspaper in my former town, it's the same nonsense over there.
The resident WalMart basher over there is going to freak when she reads this.........and I do plan on posting it there!!!!!
LOL.
I know what you mean about ANTI-WAL-MART crowds that believe everything ,that is fed to them by the UNIONS and that have never actually taken the time, to talk to people that are employed by WAL-MART and have been working there for a long period of time.
Like myself or the likes of some of our department managers that have been there for 12 plus years.
If it was such a horrendous employer, those people would not have stayed as long as they have.
BTW,I think that every company has room for improvement in some areas, even UNION ran companies.
Dr. Williams is awesome. :)
"Walter Williams is just as phoney as Andrew Young."
"Willie Green is just as phoney as Andrew Young."
There. All fixed. ;)
